I like mostly "Jahili" poetry. Imro2 Al-Qayes and Qus Ibn Sa3ida the most....
Well, I like to read for Jahili poets too, but I don't understand much. I think al-Mutanabbi is my favorite, although the insulting poems of Al-Farazdaq, Jareer and Al-Akh6al for each other are funny too...

Edit: I have to say that Nezar has great poems too although most of them are written by the modern way...

why it bothered you that much :faq1:

then you can merge nick's thread with that USA apreciate thread too
It's just standard mod practice. If you think something is a good resource and you want people to have one place to read about and post about a topic -- instead of forcing others to lose their way scattered among several similar, lesser, weaker threads -- you merge them.

I agree that the USA appreciation thread has been bordering on NATW territory, at least while Nick and the likes of Andy and Burke were banned, even if the discussions had nothing to do with the USA.

But at that, I'd like to see that USA thread die a deserved death -- which seems to be going on now. (And I'd like to see that thread die a quiet death in anonymity, rather than live on in the massive NATW thread.) After all, the USA appreciation thread was created more than anything as a joke by Zé T (in case people didn't get that -- like, oh, say, someone whose initials rhyme with "Rebel" :D).

I'm honored to know that my thread has the potential to become the next NATW  and what are you talking about Greg? It wasn't meant to be a joke.

Well, calling it a "joke" is a bit extreme -- I know you didn't intend that much, so you've got me there. But it's not as deadpan serious as some are making it out to be.

Think the original definition of "comedy" from Shakespearean days...

Oh, I agree. Let's just put it this way: It's about as serious as Georgies State of the Union Address. Feel me?

:D

Al Jahili poetry is my favourite as well and Al-Mutanabbi, Amr Ibn Kalthom, Antara Ibn Shadad, Imr2o Al-Qayes, etc.....are amongst the best without a doubt.

Do you guys know a website for the Jahili poetry?

By the way Rami, who wrote the poetry in your signature?

What does that mean?
This is one of the most famous Arabic proverbs, bro. (men tele3 men daro, 2t2al me2daro)

It means that the one who decides to leave his home (and home here means either his house or his homeland), will be disvalued.

And ReBeL's one is an animated joke about that proverb. ;)

for the 100th time rab, you hate syria, you hate the people the government and everything called syrian (not that I care)..
Are you arguing snoop just to argue? and just to type? What Syrian people has to do with the "cuisine" we're talking about?

I hate the gov? Yes, (but thats not a topic related to what we're talking)

I hate their people? Don't claim things you don't know. And talk on my behalf...I really don't like that.

but what you are saying is all non-sense
I'm Lebanese and I pretty much know more than you about our culture and probably syrians culture, I don't live in Syria....True... But I do have over 3syrian friends in where I currently live, and NOT EVEN SYRIANS WOULD CLAIM THAT THEIR FOOD IS LIKE THE LEBANESE ONE.

No offense but, I dont think you have any clue about our tradition though you have lived in both places, but It doesn't seem that you know what you're talking about. You probably tried the same food and you think It's the same. But don't really teach a Lebanese and tell him that his "cuisine" is like the Syrian one. Know your facts and when you get back to Lebanon make sure you ask over there.

are you claiming that syrians are dumbs and that they can't have their own cuisine? did you try syrian food? no, you tried a shitty cheap restaurant when you were in syria at war time in lebanon, not every restaurent is like that. I have tried shitty- cheap restaurants in lebanon too, are they all the same? did I ever say that?
Again, I feel your questions are even lame to answer.....I never insulted the syrians and never called them dumbs.

I never said they can't have their own cuisine/food. Of course they can, but that doesn't mean they can make like our food since they can.

Ask any foreigner about the middle-east food? He wouldn't know what you're talking about. Ask him about the Lebanese food, he'll understand.

Next to where I currently live now there are couple If not 3 syrian rests, I've tried them all, and Lol, even the owner of the places do use Lebanese Chef to prepare the food over there.

It's really not the same, and syrians themselves would tell you that....

@Snoop and Rab, don't let the momentum of the argument takes you that far.
We are here in that thread to speak about anything: traditions, different arabic cultures, music, jokes and whatever we like. But please, try as possible as you can to be away from politics.

Back to what Rab said, I agree and I want to add that we all here in the Arab world want peace and prosperity for every Arab country without a doubt. We have nothing to do with our governments and we have no hand in their decisions. Even though, we are proud that we still have nearly the same traditions and we speak the same language.

Peace Guys.

Edit: I agree with both of you about having different political point of views, I didn't mean cuisines, huh....

Me and Snoop always argue. He's good after-all. It's normal to argue though he piss the shit out of me sometimes. But we've been like this since long time.

I know Syrians has really nothing to do with the gov...thats what some close people of mine do tell me. I really have nothing against the Syrians nor Palestinians people(like lot of people do think on this forum). Though I would always disagree with them when It comes to politics.

But thats how things go, people always have diff views/points.

deny it as much as you want, I don't like the people also in general, but I don't make lies about them just because I don't like them, facts are facts, if there are good sides, should be praised then, but if not, they shouldn't..

just like I said, you don't make sense here, how the fuck you will know better than me if you didn't live here in syria? I am not claiming I know the lebanese culture.lol where did you bring that from? I am claiming that I have been more than 20 restaurants in Lebanon, and more than 20 In syria, and claiming that they have the same foods, ofcourse with different tecniques. don't tell me you don't know what you are talking about because it is funny, actually you don't know what you talking about, you can't have a strong argument because you have a syrian friend and he told you so and so

come here 3azuri I will take you to good restaurants 3ala hsebi ;) and you will tell me the difference;)

Again, I feel your questions are even lame to answer.....I never insulted the syrians and never called them dumbs.
I advise you to re read what you have said "Syrian cuisine??" that was your quote ;)

Ask any foreigner about the middle-east food? He wouldn't know what you're talking about. Ask him about the Lebanese food, he'll understand.
that has to do with tourism, lebanon has a good name in tourism, while syrians always failed in that area.

they use lebanese chiefs just for the reasons I mentioned earlier, l2annon mzw2in aktar, the same food they make it taste better, you see now what I am talking about?
