Everyone looked bad that game though.
Yes, but a lot of our problems that match was because of our absolute absence of movement in the midfield and a lack of outlet.

Locatelli surely has to be pushed higher up the field . Playing him deep naturally limits him from getting into scoring postions, runs in the box and linking up with our attackers.

Against Roma we saw what he can potentially do when he gets a bit more freedom

We can all argue on this, but probably most of us see offloading Rabiot and keeping Rovella and Fagioli as the best possible scenario, but it just didnt happen. We were unable to sell him in the end, so it is what it is and in this case sending them both on loan seem like a most logical way from both sporting and financial perspective. For me we totally needed someone in regista/playmaker position, lets see if Paredes is the right player, some guys here rate him quite highly so lets just hope he is injury free.

#Allegri : " #Rovella has already left, #Fagioli is from #Juventus and I think he will stay at Juventus".
I think he meant to say Fagioli is HG, so we have space to keep him. Rovella depends on the others, Fagioli can stay in spite of the others

Well he played the same position against Samp and Roma

He played great last season in the same position

I agree he has qualities that would be very good in a more advanced position, just that he can play both no issues.

This is the Chiesa left or right discussion all over again

Locatelli has been poor in all games this season. He played in the double pivot against Roma and and was even outshined by Rabiot.

He clearly needs to play in a more advanced midfield role similar to how he plays in the Italy set-up.

No he didn't. He wasn't regista vs Roma. He was first two games (started as double pivot vs samp but 20 minutes in changed to 433 and regista).

Vs Roma was double pivot with Rabiot. They were super central and the freedom to join attack and change positions on occasion. But Miretti was infront of them as Pseudo AM. There was no fixed deep regista and no left or right CM in sight.

He was poor in first 2, great vs Roma and he played the exact same position he did in the first 2.
Locatelli played great vs Roma? He got outshined by Rabiot, and when Rabiot went off injured, our team collapsed.

I might be in the minority here, but I really haven't seen Locatelli play as brilliantly as you suggest. His start of this season has been really poor.

I would like to see Paredes - Rabiot - Miretti together.

Opinions. Gotta love em'.

The way Locatelli is hyped around here, you'd have you think he's Iniesta or something

Just shows how bad our midfield standards have dropped that any run of the mill midfielder is hyped as a savior of our midfield

For now, he's just a slightly better and a controlled version of Bentancur. I think Parepiss will be much more useful than him especially in the regista role.

Nah, everything except first 20 minutes vs Sassuolo has been 433/451. One CM is always going to go higher (McK vs Samp, Miretti vs Roma), but we always defended with 3

Surely not? he was much deeper against Samp no ?

Miretti made a big difference against Roma too tho.

Personally im convinced we need someone else for that regista/ish role, thats why im leaning towards getting Paredes, considering the lack of options
Yeah because the entire team was deeper. We didn't have a ball playing defender like Danilo vs Samp so they could push higher up

When you don't have quality or versatility like Marchisio, you've got to play your Locatelli to his strengths and in his preferred position. Same applies for Rabiot. When you provide a structure and gamelan for the limited squad, you get the best out of them and you get a controlled and consistent performance. This is why a 10M winger will be way better than 40M Kean on LW and it's better to use Kostic further back rather than LW because he just isn't that type of winger.

This is why I'm so perplexed by our mercato, cheap cover for Di Maria would be more effective than Paredes and Milik who don't solve any problems. Kean as Vlahovic backup will come good because he's better in the centre. We needed a pure playmaker ahead of Paredes even if he was only a backup option to cover injuries. We're only going to be good once Chiesa, Pogba, and Di Maria all start and no matter how well we play from now on, we've handicapped ourselves tactically the moment one guy gets injured.

Frankly I did not see anything special from Loca so far.
Except that he gives a fuck more grinta than Benta, Rabiot, Mcburger, All combined.

+ more technically gifted than our other midfielders last years, but still nothing special yet.

He is/was much more useful in the Italy squad
