Is it? Or did we play like that because we had no LW after Chiesa's injury? Allegri didn't move Morata out wide until later in the season and seemed more forced to me, especially after signing Vlahovic..
It seems presumptuous to think that is what he wants to do again this year, especially after the lack of success last season. I'd like to see him with a balanced squad and options before deciding that is the tactic he wants to use.
I also don't see a lot of similarities in style between Morata and Raspadori other than they are both better centrally.

Mandzukic was a beast who made that position his own by forcing it with his performances. Allegri never used him there initially. Morata is completely different player and didn't even play the same role.
As I said before Morata only played LW later in the season (when we had very few options) so it is hardly like he only used this one system. We played longer in the 4-4-2 hybrid with Rabiot on the left.
All in all I don't think the evidence is there to suggest Allegri is demanding we sign a central player to play out wide.

The biggest weakness is still our midfield in my view especially since Pogba will be out for much of the season. Fagioli should be kept but we cannot expect him to be a protagonist in his first full season. Every time I watch this team play including pre season, we always seem to struggle to play out of our own half and beat the press - much of the opposition’s chances come from losing the ball under a press and we seldom look composed with the ball.

IN: SMS, Kostic, Udogi
OUT: Rabiot, Arthur, Sandro
Secondary priorities could involve upgrades to Rugani and Kean. A reliable backup for Vlahovic is important because of god forbid he gets injured…. Don’t invite where the goals are going to come from….Di Maria won’t score all of them.

I've only seen Kostic play once in the EL final but tbh if he's more of a LWB than a pure LW attacker that would actually be ideal because we'll need our LW to do plenty of tracking back to help cover for Alex Sandro.
Nothing wrong with a lopsided formation, and as I remember Allegri employed one with Dani Alves and Alex Sandro.
In that sense a guy like Kostic makes even more sense beyond just the low price and the obvious plus of having more balkans in the squad. It just seems like such a no-brainer transfer, I don't understand why we don't seem to be moving for him
