Considering we have Vlahovic, Cuadrado and Chiesa returning by early October I think it’s not that bad. Not ideal nor sustainable or long term but it’s better than last season considering Dybala’s injuries, Kean being Kean and Morata’s poor form.

IMO it shows our will to do things better from now on. Am I think Pogba-Paulo, Bremer-De Ligt, Chiello-Gati, Morata-X are improvements versus last year? No

As I said before, last year we underperformed really hard and Max was kind of just doing damage control in the second half. So I’m pretty sure he can do it better even if I consider current team weaker than last year

Di Maria-Kostic-Depay-Muriel (or Simeone)?

Probably all of those are an upgrade for this year at least, but it would leave us short one HG player for Champions League which is terrible strategising. For that reason I rate it 100/√27 because its never gonna happen. We're stuck with Kean unless we convince Roma to sell us Spinazzola

Not the first time to enter the CL with not a full squad, actually having 3 HG players (Fagiolo-Miretti-Pinsoglio)is a first since a long time, Soulé qualifies in the B list as well.

I don't think I've had such a bad or insecure feeling before the start of the season. Also thinking Allegri will be sacked at the end of the season (again) because this squad won't challenge for the title at all. There are just too many things wrong with this squad that I expect a very mediocre season from us very similar to last year.

A defense of Bonucci and Bremer is already questionable. Bonucci is decreasing for 3 seasons right now and Bremer remains to be seen. We haven't improved in this area at all. Our left backs of Alex Sandro and MDS to me is also questionable. MDS is injury prone and Alex Sandro really offers 0 anymore. Has just become a squad filler by now. Our depth in central defense is Gatti, who has never played in Serie A and eternal prospect Rugani.

Midfield looks better. Especially with the prospect of Parades joining instead of Rabiot. However we still have problems over here as well. Our midfield is highly-dependent on Pogba who seems injured. Best case scenario: he has conservative treatment and returns to full action. Realistic scenario: he starts injured in to a busy season with a WC also and something snaps in his knee and he's out for multiple months. We'll have to rely on Mckennie or Zakaria then.

Upfront we're good: Di Maria is here, Cuadrado can play both flanks, Vlahovic will score and Kostic is a temporary replacement until Chiesa returns to action.

- Can Bonucci - Bremer really work instantly?
- Will Di Maria be motived after the WC?
- Can Pogba's knee hold on for an entire season?
- How long does is take until Chiesa comes back at 100% or and will any new cycle of muscle injury start?

Yeah, centre backs look worrying. If one of Bonucci or Bremer gets injured we have to rely on Danilo or Rugani to be regular starters there. Gatti will probably be our coppa italia guy with less minutes than Rugani in total. It's just not good enough. Thank fuck we managed to snatch Bremer from merda, otherwise we would be in even more complicated situation having someone like Kimpembe or Milenkovic as our main starter.

For a defensive minded tactic and strategy we look good up front and too poor at the back.

I can picture it as a bulky muscular man with skinny legs. Yeah he can punch and looks scary but his also very unstable and easy to knock to the ground.

I will wait until after deadline day to rate this mercato. Overall I am not sure the squad is strong enough to win the league. If all our players return from injury and stay fit then we might have an outside chance. But our track record on injuries suggests otherwise.

The one good thing is that I think we might achieve lowering the wage bill.

So far the mercato is a 6/10. At the moment we are actually worse off than before the mercato started, but many of the decisions we kind of were forced into.

5.5/10 Mercato so far. Kostic is a good addition, finally a player that isn’t one dimensional on our left side. Still gaping holes in this squad though. Defence is much weaker than last season, midfield has improved slightly and attack just doesn’t feel complete - we’ve looked sterile in the final third for the whole of pre season and not scored in the last 2 games.

Considering our defence was leaky last season and it’s actually got worse I’m very concerned going into the season opener.

Chiellini hardly played. 1300 minutes in the league. Gatti is an unknown, but he probably isn’t being asked to be a starter immediately. So it’s not like he’s being asked to fill prime Giorgio’s shoes right away.

Other than that our defence is currently the same. So it seems that our defence is really no different from last season.

Pellegrini imo was dreadful. As bad as Sandro.

MdS was the best LB in our squad last year. Too bad he was mostly out injured. He’s mediocre too, but far better than the other numbskulls we had/have in the position. If we don’t buy a LB, I hope he stays healthy this year

Just saying. Yeah, at this point I'd prefer MdS over both of them too.

Decline is worse. Sandro is another year slower and rendered useless. The same applies to Bonucci and Danilo. Bremer isn’t better than MDL overall though he certainly was last season, prior to that he hasn’t been and MDL is younger and used to our players. Bremer is better in a back 3 but he’s untested on the centre left in a back 4 - absolutely he was a beast for Torino but I’m reserving judgement on him until I see him in a back 4. Although it was a friendly his performance vs Atletico was howler after howler, he looked completely lost with Bonucci - their partnership will improve and that game was an anomaly but that’s still a huge concern.

Chiellini may have been old and past it last year but he still had value and in Gatti we have a player with 0 top level experience - I just can’t see how he is at present an improvement on last years Chiellini (I hope otherwise).

Last year was Cuadrados worst and he seems to have started his decline. Add to this we have no natural back up to Alex Sandro now with Pellegrini going, we’re going to see even more of that disaster this season. The defence in its current form is a weaker unit than it was at the start of 21/22
