Given that Real Madrid don’t have any box to box midfielders but have 3 playmakers instead, it is kind of relevant.
I reckon we would have lost the midfield battle regardless of our injuries or not. We have a history of pressing and then running out of steam in Europe.

I definitely would say the passing ability of that midfield 3 is world class with 3 providing playmaking characteristics, however, to say that they lack a box-to-box I would say isn't quite correct either.
Kroos is a deep-lying playmaker, Casemiro is a midfield destroyer with strong passing ability, but he is also a tackling machine.
Modric is the box-to-box midfielder. He isn't like Vidal in the sense that he is a tackling machine, but Modric still averages more interceptions than Vidal did this year. He tackles more than Pogba as well. He is defensively very strong. He also will also contribute to the attack by actually making offensive runs. The main difference is that he isn't a traditional box-to-box that relies on purely physical characteristics.
What Real Madrid doesn't have is a Barcelona circa-2012 midfield. Real Madrid is a much more direct team, and when they beat us in the final, that was evident because they hit us on the counter attack several times.
