Ibra is at the end of his career. Pogba is a massive idiot. Miki is not a star.

Verratti is worldclass. He can pick any team he wants. He is at a team better than any EPL team. He has 0 reason to go to united.
Pogba was the hottest prospect in the world and could have picked any team. Miki was definitely one of the star players of the Bundesliga and BVB. Ibra could have gone to many other clubs as well and could have stayed at PSG. All 3 chose to go to UTD and all 3 are big names. Calling them idiots or whatever retrospectively (and I agree that Pogba should have waited at least one more year to see how things pan out at UTD and at Juve) does not counter the fact that 3 top level players that most top teams would have happily signed were convinced to join UTD despite the lack of CL football. They got Di Maria the season before and Falcao before that (before he died) all while they were in the gutter. All these cases show that they can buy big names from better clubs (in terms of football performance).

After the Pogba saga we should really never confidently say they can't get such and such player or that they are deluded to think they can sign XYZ. I can imagine they can only get more attractive as they grow more wealthy and actually start playing in Europe. Veratti would be retarded if he chooses them over barca or madrid imo but that doesnt mean they cannot buy him.

I love journalism like "Sanchez wants out of Arsenal because of the lack of silverware, his preference is Italy with his choice being between Juventus and Inter".

So, some guy wrote this and someone else reviewed it, both finding it fine. That "Inter" at the end made none think something like, hmmmm that doesn't make sense in so many levels. This is not bad journalism, that's simply retarded.

On the other hand, if there are people believing it...

Pogba wanted United, thats why they got him. Its his home after all so no big surprise he went there in hindsight. Mikhi is a great player but not a superstar by any means. Ibra wanted to work with Mourinho again + where else could he go? EPL was the only destination left for him and United was an obvious choice

None was willing to pay that kind of money beside United

All this shit talk of selling Dybala and getting Sanchez makes me want to vomit. Seriously wtf is wrong with you all? Dybala is going nowhere AND we're signing a midfielder (not Verratti by any means).

You're deluded if you think Marotta will turn down a possible near €100m+ Offer. It's business.

To be fair, people said the same about Pogba. Hell, even worse, because it was Manchester who didn't have faith in him during Ferguson era.

Manchester is a powerhouse and their profits are incredible and their brand is probably the best one at the moment. They also have Mourinho which only means they are capable of getting top targets. If Verratti is up for sale (which I highly doubt will happen) and if Manchester is in a need of a midfielder, then you can be sure we've got a tough competition there by default, despite of them being shit at the moment.

Selective argument, Ibra and Pogba are bigger stars and names then Verratti, so its defenitely a bigger deal then you make it out to be. They got the players despite no CL and no stability, so yes it speaks alot to their appeal. Cant be denied, so why do it?

Yeah they wont be getting many ambitious stars that have better options, but they wont be down for long more probably, but more importantly money sooths over many doubts for most players.

We bought the record breaker Higuain , the second best mid in serie a pjanic , one of the best defender in the world in Benatia, best RB in the last decade and people still believe we can't buy Sanchezs of world.
Bunch of losers.

Its not about who the bigger star ist though, its more about how many of the big clubs are interested. Who else besides United wanted Ibra? Maybe few other EPL clubs, everywhere else he either played already or the clubs didnt want him. Ill give you Pogba but you could argue he wanted to return to his home, however stupid that sounds + we dont know if other clubs were ready to offer him almost 9M wages net, which is more than Ibra has for example. But lets say that all doesent matter and they got Pogba because of their appeal or whatever. Thats one name out of how many since Ferguson left?

If Mourinho manages to drag United in CL places this season, I can see them returning to footballs elite, so far Mourinho has never failed at a club in his second season, league and CL at Porto, league at Chelsea, league and CL at Inter, record breaking league win at RM, league at Chelsea. His clubs always hit monster form at second season

You have very rational points, but thats not how Zach is painting it tho is it? They still managed to attract said players at the end of the day.

Moves are all about timing and needs, everyone could used Pogba like they could use Verratti, with the addes bonus of Pogba being a super star that can become a huge brand name. But with the timing of that point and how much he would cost, how many teams he were willing go to besides Man U were ready to pay up? That only leaves Barca and Real, former were kinda strapped and lost in their dealings even if he was affordable to them (Gomes, Alcaer and Suarez cost over 100m, all duds) while Real dont have practical need for a top midfielder.

The wish and preference of the player matters too, Pogba wanted Man U and is probably most attached to EPL of all the leagues, he didnt care for best possible chance to win CL by this choice. Verratti has more options if he leaves and specfically would move to improve his chance to win something other then league title (read: CL) but also depends entirely on what he cost when it comes to his options. However unlikely scenario it is, if push comes to shove and Barca or Real baulk at PSGs price and dont want to commit, and newly CL ready Man U wants to bid record sum, yeah you bet they would be a viable option for him. Not the smartest option but a viable one. At some point he will tire of doing the same thing in PSG for 5 years (kinda like how Pogba did for us). They would be low in the totem pole of his choices due to CL and probably not being his type of football, but still there due to how big the club is (PSG are nothing in comparison and he still went there).

People forget too quickly they are by far the biggiest English club since their closest historical rival Liverpool been a meandering joke for near 3 decades. Dumbassess that have more money then sense and been faltering for far too long, but they can simply afford these mistakes and they are one great coach or competent management away from bouncing back with some consistency to the elite. Too big of a club to keep failing too long.

And regarding rest of your question, Di Maria was defenitely a star, injury plagued by Falcao was too. But besides that, yeah if your options are Barca, Real, Bayern or even neighbouring city at the time, you would not pick Man U.

Unfortunately this time he is facing the great man Don. Antonio. He will never win EPL as long as Conte is around there.

I would also place my bet on Conte winning the league again, but with this United even being in the title race and challenging for CL would be an achievement, their team is very holey.

Not that it is in any way relevant but Gomes €35M + (bonuses up to €20M), Paco €30M and Suarez €3,25M = €68,25M + bonuses

Zizinho is being ridiculous, on purpose I think, but Pogba's case was very particular. He had a major personal affection for the club.

Would be very surprised if that's the same for many other top players, much less Verratti.

Come on, mu has a very competitive squad for epl. One would argue before the season they have the best starting 11 on paper, except maybe fullbacks position.
