People are willing to settle for Sneijder? :howler:
On the cheap? yes. A short term solution not a long term one in any sense until we can get out shit together and buy properly someone we know will perform at a high level.

He is a very good player and experienced. Would you rather spend on a panic buy like Lamela?

Sneijder would be an extremely good signing. Better AM than Gotze too. At least he doesn't sit on the bench.

There is something all to familiar with initial expectations to final reality with a long drawn out Marotta search for a big name player after the Vidal sale.

Expectations went from: Oscar, to Isco, to Gotze, to Reus, to Draxler, to Erikson.......will end up with either Lamela or Sneijder. Or maybe no-one.

If we get no-one, he will say: "We cannot compete with these big teams". But I bet if you look at our net spend every year, we are not that far away from these so called "big teams"

Only the media linked us with those players.

It's true though. We've lost a lot of quality (2 out of 3 of the names were out of his control for sure), we have brought in a lot of good players, but IMO we are definitely lacking a creative player who can link midfield with attack. It's blindingly obvious.

It's a good thing that this team is already perfect for the 3-5-2. ;)

Can you tell me why, with facts? :)
He can't buy, he can't sell, he signs mediocre material, he has been very lucky with his free transfers, Conte/Allegri have made up for all of his tyranny on the market.

I think we'll be relegation strugglers this season.

His positives are simply put bigger than his negatives. Everyone makes mistakes, simular to Moggi. Remember Salas? Yeah, that's what i thoughd.

I wouldnt mind Sneijder as a sub or as part of our trio in midfield (fighting with Khedira for a place) but if he comes it wouldnt be for a sub role so... NO!

We can do without an LB (for this season)...but we really need an attacking/creative player, and to start the season without a "top" player in that position is unacceptable IMO.

THERE I SAID IT
I agree but Evra is 34 years old and Asamoah won't be back till 2016 meaning that either Padoin or De Ceglie will be our options if Evra can't play.
We should bring in a young left back which is not the almost 30years old Siqueira.

I can understand buying Dybala to replace Tevez.
Having the duo Morata-Dybala with Coman as bencher. What i don't understand is spending 40m on 2 players when they should be subs and not starters.
Now since we spent so much on 3 strikers when we need only 2 we don't have the cash to bring the quality AM we needed.
We had all the chances to get Gotze. Seeing how he has 2 years of contract left and that he isn't happy under Guardiola managment. Giving them Vidal getting in Gotze that would have been something i could understand. Draxler? risky but young and talented. Can understand. Anyone which isn't Oscar,Isco or Fekir would be a massive blow and a huge step back from last season.

Before we let go of Tevez and Vidal my ideal mercato would have been the duo from Monaco Kurzawa and Fabinho and a good and young AM (you name it. my name if i could pick would be Oscar or Gotze).
Not replacing Pirlo with anyone and rely on Sturaro,Pereyra and Asamoah once fit.
Imo we had to do whatever it took to keep Tevez and Vidal. Instead of letting them go like that.
I don't think it was impossible to make Tevez stay for the year he had left. It would have been perfect to have an attack formed by Tevez-Morata-Dybala and Coman. That way Dybala could have grown without pressure under Tevez wing.
But that's all to ruins now. We even sold Vidal and we'll never get such a quality player in that zone on the market.
All to ruins. While we could have strenghtened our team keeping our lead in Italy and try again to reach the final in Milan.

I know i'm boring and tagged as pessimist but that's how i see our mercato.
Potential could have been:
--------------------------Buffon/Neto
Fabinho/Lichsteiner-Bonucci/Rugani-Chiellini/Barzagli-Evra/Kurzawa
--------Vidal/Sturaro-Marchisio/Padoin-Pogba/Asamoah
------------------------ Fekir/Pereyra
------------------Tevez/Dybala-Morata/Coman

In
Fekir
Dybala
Kurzawa
Fabinho

Out:
Llorente
Matri
Pepe
Pirlo

That would have been my ideal mercato. And if we coudn't afford that. Replace Dybala with Berardi. and Amen.
Now instead we have 2 benchers Mandzukic and Zaza paid almost 40m. Khedira which should have been a starter instead of Vidal.
No quality AM
No subs for Lichsteiner (31) and Evra(34) aside Caceres and Padoin which aren't full backs.
5 strikers leaving no place for Coman and at the same time refused to sell for 15m.
No more Vidal and none avaible on the market in that role without spending big money.

If you ask me without a true quality AM (Gotze,Isco,Oscar,Fekir and draxler) this will be a huge fail.
Was it too much to ask to buy what we needed and keep what we already had?
How? giving Tevez 1-2m more to stay here for one more year and Improving Vidal wages.

God no!!!!! too hard. ye like hell it was.

Updated this, see attached.

We are 9th in terms of net spend since 2010, so just about hanging in there in terms of the elite clubs.

Over the last couple of seasons we are not really at the ball game. In terms of salary we will be roughly the same position, because of the PL top 4-5 + Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern. We are clearly the biggest spenders in Italy, for what it's worth.

We can't compete with the "big teams" in terms of spending, not really.
