We seen what he was capable of playing in his preferred role at Chelsea. Mou came along and wanted dat dere workr8 and his favoured position has been almost exclusively off limits at United since then. He's one of those really good players who just can't get to stay in his ideal position permanently. Reminds me of Cavani who was considered a World class #9 at Napoli spent years playing in a stupid role for his National Team and then moved to PSG and was no longer the first choice CF for either club or country.

Then you have journeyman scrubs who average 10 goals/season that always get the spot they want.

Tbf numbers tell some of the story. But definitely not all of it. Generally Chiellini has had much better passing stats than Pirlo over their respective careers, for example.

Mata at his best is elite.Hamsik doesn't come close imo.

Also I would rather €40m on Mata purely because of commercial reasons again.

For the same price I take Mata over Hamsik because I feel he is a class player being held back by Luis Van Troll. But when there are 10-15M inbetween I will chosse the Slovak.

You have to realize that the circumstances speak against transfers from EPL tho. Weak euro, high wages, ManUtd's financial power combined with LVG's fetish to just stack expensive players

When Mata was getting linked with us sometime last year (2 years ago?) a lot of people here did not want him from what I remember. Would love to see him here, great player and would fit the AM perfectly. IMO he was just misused at United for awhile. Won't happen though, so Pereyra it is!

There is no one to buy for a reasonable amount that would make us better in this moment. And Mata is definitely NOT Juventus No10 material. Sure he can fill the gap, but he isn't even on the level of Tevez.
