Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni hopes his men can maintain their strong momentum in Saturday night’s ‘Derby d’Italia’ at Juventus Stadium.
Having steered the Nerazzurri to six consecutive victores, the 36-year-old, in his first full season in charge, is determined to derail the Bianconeri’s unbeaten start to the campaign and close the gap at the top of Serie A to a single point.
Speaking to the media from the club’s Angelo Moratti training complex, Stramaccioni said: “We’ll be up against a top rate side and the defending champions of Italy. That said, I wouldn’t settle for a draw. We’re Inter and will give it a go, without fear."
Whilst refusing to drop any hints regarding his potential starting line-up for tomorrow’s encounter, Stramaccioni did admit he would be making arrangements to keep a close eye on Pirlo, before expressing his admiration for the Bianconeri’s potent strikeforce.
“The midfield is Juventus’ main point of strength. Pirlo is their playmaker and possesses the greatest quality, it’s normal to try and reduce his impact on the game. That doesn’t mean to say we’ll man mark him, but we’ll certainly give him special consideration.
“We’ve also got to be aware of the ease in which Juventus have scored this season. Goals are capable of coming from any area of the team and up front they boast strikers with different characteristics, from Bendtner to Giovinco.”
The Roma-born tactician concluded by echoing Andrea Barzagli’s sentiments concerning the importance of tomorrow’s game in relation to both clubs' Scudetto ambitions.
“Regardless of the outcome, Saturday’s game won’t decide the destiny of the title. We’ve managed to improve in a short space of time thanks to the commitment of the players and a slice of good luck. Everyone’s pulling in the same direction.”
