I did not know that Sweden had forces in Afghanistan.

Can anybody tell us please what the benefit of sending such forces is there?

Sweden has a history of sending UN-forces for peace keeping. The Afghanistan forces of "only" 500 soldiers now take part in offenses too; Taliban and opium trade hunting.

I don't mind it and I have friends down there who I obviously fully support, but most likely the troops will be withdrawn fairly soon as there is plenty of opposition in parliament.

Fine. I just meant that Sweden had a good history of not interfering in others' wars. And Afghanistan is clearly not a healthy place to send troops to.

Are you sure they are hunting down opium traders?

Indeed. Sweden's more or less an inofficial NATO-member, as some of the leaked diplomatic cables also confirmed. Not quite as neutral or innocent as we like to claim.

Not to mention also the world's second largest weapon exporter per capita, after Israel.

Well, whether the guy was Iraqi or Somali, it really doesn't matter. Now folks like Osman and the Muslim community will be subject to a little more scrutiny, at least from some Swedes. That's why the Muslim and international community in Sweden needs to come together, denounce the idiocy, and form some sort of group that works to counter such extremism. Some members of the general public will want to see a response like that instead of complete silence.
First they need to investigate what this is all about before going all "me sow sowry" damage controll over one incident and one guy dying.

Peacekeeping and basic infrastructure building (schools/hospitals etc). They become more on the offense lately, because the area's that need most help now is the areas in Taliban controll.

There is no need to bring you any evidence, search his posts and see for yourself. He barely posts anything football related.

Hehe, the guy has allways made bigoted comments, thats basically only thing I know of him as a poster, recalling past racist sentiments and such (israeli-arab discussions etc). Not allways in obvious way, but allways bigoted.

I assumed he hadnt been posting because he was banned or something.
