He plays as a holding mid for Sevilla so I wonder how we're going to line up if he comes here. I mean will Pjanić get forward more often now ?

I wish it was Verratti. But we can only dream about it.

Fabinho or N'Zonzi look possible :boh:
I would take Fabinho 10 times out of 10 over N'Zonzi. Fabinho may not put us over the top now in CL, but he has room to grow into a player that could. N'Zonzi simply won't help us now or in the future in the CL

This is an ok signing, but it isn't a statement signing. It's just another one of those meh underwhelming signings which raises more questions than it actually provides answers. Solid and dependable, but that's about it. We need better, but I don't feel we are going to get it.

He is a strong DM, if it's exactly what Allegri wants it's more then ok and he fits the formation. The kind of defensive presence there allows rest of midfield to just focus on attacking.

Fabinho is better signing due to age and being better at running with ball and technique, defensively they are pretty similar, in fact better edge for Nzonzi there.

But I don't get talking down this player too much and talk of likes of Tolisso and such like he is a world beater? I genuinely tried to watch him with objective eyes and he is just a b2b talent, but I very much doubt he can have better impact then Nzonzi for us. Even more worrisome is I don't think he can function in 2 man CM.

I'm on my way to watch Sweden - France, let's see if Tolisso gets to play and how he looks impact wise in person (you notice more live), but I seen Lyon in EL and Ligue 1 2nd half, and he was mediocre most of the time.

I'm actually not that impressed with Tolisso, especially for the figures being mentioned. I have a feeling he isn't going to blossom into some WC dominating presence in midfield. Fainho, on the other hand, is someone I really want here.

But €40M for him though....

I am all for buying guys in their prime but we have been making too many of those lately

Why the pessimism. Is it simply because this transfer is now looking likely?

I seem to remember a desperate want for him here earlier when we weren't going to be meeting the clause in January.

And for those saying we need to make a "Statement" signing...why the hell should it be in CM? FFS what we need is attacking players...numerous attacking players...wingers, strikers, CAMs whatever but we need more cover up there if we're going to field four of them at a time. spending 60mil on a CM right now would be idiotic.
