Juve fans ban Stankovic
Saturday 28 June, 2008
The controversy over Dejan Stankovic’s move to Juventus rolls on as fans start a petition to ban any transfers from Inter.
The Bianconeri have confirmed they are interested in signing the Serb midfielder, but this decision has caused shockwaves in the fan community.
A petition has been started to convince the club that Stankovic would be the wrong move for a number of reasons.
When he left Lazio in January 2004, he had seemed set to join Juve, but at the last second chose rivals Inter instead.
Also, he was among the most vocal detractors of Juventus during the Calciopoli scandal, when the 2005-06 title was stripped from the Turin giants’ record and handed to Inter.
“Stankovic is a wide midfielder and we need someone who can lead the play from the middle of the park,” pointed out pundit and legendary Juve supporter Giampiero Mughini.
“As for Inter, we will only resume negotiations of any kind with them when they admit they did not win their 14th Scudetto.
“Until that day, no exchanges or transfers, let alone this one. It is inelegant for Juve to gather the crumbs that have fallen from other people’s tables…”
A similar situation is emerging at Atalanta, where the supporters are protesting against Christian Vieri’s possible return to the club.
