Lazio to move home?
Thursday 13 April, 2006

Channel4.com wrote:

Lazio are considering leaving the Stadio Olimpico by making the city’s Stadio Flaminio their new home, it has emerged this evening.

The Biancocelesti currently share the 80,000 capacity Olimpico with city rivals Roma, which they rent from the Italian Olympic Committee, but the club have hinted in recent seasons that they want an arena all of their own.

Now the Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, has revealed that talks are set to take place regarding a possible switch.

However, the proposed move will only occur if the Flaminio is renovated and has its capacity increased to around 40,000.

Should that be made possible then it is likely that the stadium, which was used by both capital clubs while the Olimpico was renovated for Italia ’90, will then be shared by Lazio and the Italian Rugby Union side.

That's whole thing, though. If they hadn't overstretched their finances to buy players then wouldn't have had to do a fire-sale...Chicken or the egg...

I dont understand why they decided to sell, you won the league in 2000, win it again, dont sell your star players..youre in debt ? eventually the CL match TV revenue and Serie A would have taken it in a year..

The Stadio Flaminio is a nice stadium. Its small but generates a great atmosphere inside it. But, why would you leave the Stadio Olympico??

What about Vieri, Stankovic, Veron, Simeone..

This team was one of the most entertaining teams in Seria A.

Well, they pay funds to rent the Olympico weekly, so this is a wise move for them, considering the long run of the club. Although, i'm surprised how would they manage to buy the stadium as they're in debt.

Alot of players leaving lead to the down fall of Lazio but the main players that affected them the most were Nedved, Nesta and Crespo. Then you got to add Veron, Stam, Mihalojvic, Stankovic, Simeone, Sensini, Sergio Conceicao, Vieri, Salas, Mancini and so on..........

Damn, they had a bomb squad. Dumb people.

i like the stadio flamino, the italian rugby team plays there and theres a good atmosphere in the 6th nations. at least the fans are closer to the pitch and lazio cannot even close to sell out the olympico. i think its a good move.

What a bunch of copycats.. Guess we are trend setters.. I wont be suprised if milan and inter try to split from each other too..
