Ian,

I really cant see how Zebina and Thuram will make fine partnership. They are both more man-marker type and none of them are capable of organizing defence, and anticipating the oppositions attack. Personally, I do think Thuram's capable of playing CB position, but given the lack of options on the right, I would like to see him play as a RB, and maybe buy good young CBs. Mexes, Ferrari or even Burdisso could have been good complement to Zebina or Thuram IMO, but sadly we missed them all and there is nobody that particuarly impress me in the market right now. The last thing we need is rash judgement and make ill-fated investment, and I honestly dont believe signings likes of Oddo is worth money. I am willing to wait and see how Miguel, and Seiritaridis, or even an unknown talent rather than buy Oddo.
I agree with you. I don't think that Zebina-Thuram will make a good partnership, but there appears to be very few alternatives. Maybe a three man defense would work better for our players, but then Zambrotta would be left out and he is our one good defender...

i think the man question has to be who will replace these type of players. moggi has only brought in chiellini, a young left back who will be back up to zambrotta, and zebina who i believe is a direct defender to replace iuliano.

as for who should leave:

1. montero- i respect him but his time is up at the club and he should move.

2. iuliano- same as montero

3. Pessotto- same as above

4. Tudor- a decent defender but his injury prone seasons have just destroyed his career.

what moggi needs is a player who can organise the defence like montero did in his good days. i really thought ferrari was that player but roma snapped him up while moggi played with himself and opted to go for zebina. Mexes was another young star who could have come in and replaced the likes of a tudor. mexes and thuram in the middle would have made a good partnership. anyhow, once again, roma got him. Heinze could have been handy but united got him.

at the end of the day, there isnt many left. cannavaro would be good, a great man marker, but at 31, do we replace old players with old players?? defeats the purpose really. Campbell is another great player to get, but is getting old as well, i think he is also 30 now, or there abouts. Ujaflusi is younger than both and would probably be the better option. but then if we move thuram central, how long will he stay there for? 1 more season or so.

its obvious that more than just one young defender should come in. ebina isnt a starter, and if players like bonera joined, they would be bench players as well. i really think ferrari and mexes would have been the best option for juve.

I think we should keep Tudor, he's still, what, 26? and still has a lot to offer, we should give him another chance

But we most definitely have to sell birindelli and iuliano, they're too old and too slow

Bolton target Iuliano
Bolton have been linked with Juventus defender Mark Iuliano. New Coach Fabio Capello has told the club that the player does not figure in his plans. Meanwhile, Iuliano says he is happy in Turin but would be interested in a move to the Premiership.

I want just to sheer this: today i was viewing Brasil-Uruguay semifinal match for the Copa America: In the center back of Uruguay was Paolo Montero and he played and excellent game, being able to neutralize totally Adriano. Paolo was by far the best defensive in the pitch, and the TV commentator was Luis Cesar Menotti, former argentinian World Cup winner trainer. He comments about Montero : "i was his trainer, back in the old days .He is as good as it gets, being is sense of position and anticipation unique. As he is playing today, i think he is still one of the five top central defenders in the world..."

I think we need to keep Montero, he can still give much to the team....
so nice:embarass:

I hope he can be good for Juve this season, because he is not too old, if he could manage to pull himslef together and play like a legend, then we could save the money for a new world class defender.

But i have my doubts.

i want to remember that last year our squad was too limited(remember we had to play with juve b against gala)...so tudor should stay one year more...while iuliano really has to go..

If Capello actually plans on giving Tudor some playing time then I say keep him, but Lippi only ever used Igor as a last resort, and played him in midfield most of the time anyways.

As for Pessotto, if Chiellini stays then he can go, but the 20 year old may well be loaned out and we'll need a back-up for Zambrotta.
