the only thing with CS as a masters is that you really do need that base as an undergrad. otherwise i doutbt they would even accept you into the program. i don't know how the system in pakistan works but i would assume that they do have some kind of IT based masters program for non-technical background ppl
You're right about having a CS base as an undergrad.Over here if you want to do your Mcs for example, you need to have a Bcs degree. You can do computer courses here privatley and learn all this technical stuff, but i dont think any recognized university offers IT specialziations for people who havent done their Bachelors in a related field too.The disadvantage of learning it all privatley is that every company wont recognize it.Infact most wont. You need a degree from a recognized university.

Well the only way I would consider an MBA, would be if I decided to pursue the business end of my Resource Management degree. If I did that, Marketing would probably be the best fit.
and for young recent grads (such as myself and my peers) marketing can quickly take a bad turn and you will end up in tele marketing or some other bull shit position which will leave you in a futile situation. you want to quit to get another job in a real marketing environment/fold but, you can't quit cuz you need some experience on your resume to get that next gig.

marketing along with all fields is a double edged sword
Marketing is pretty interesting, but having said that, its not very technical.I think all you need in Marketing is common sense.Ofcourse not studying marketing would mean that you wont be aware of the terminoligies that Marketing professioanls use..but you can still become a quality Marketing professional IMO.If you have confidence,if you are creative, and if you're good at communication..then Marketing is for you.Books wont teach you confidence, creativty and communication. Its something very natural.Ofcourse companies would want their marketing staff to have marketing degrees, which is perfectly acceptable, but i think someone who doesnt have a Marketing degree can pull off Marketing well too, provided he has the natural skills. This isnt the case with stuff like Finance,IT etc.Someone who hasnt studied this stuff wont be able to get it on his own, unlike Marketing.

The trouble with Marketing is that it's so full right now.I dont know what the trend abroad is,but in Pakistan over half of all MBAs have Marketing as their major..which in turn results in cut thorat competition for Marketing vacancies in the industry, and needless to stay, the highest number of unemployed people are Marketing professionals too.Plus as Dru rightly said,Marketing can land you in some pretty shitty jobs too.You might end up in telemarketing,or even worse..some small scale door to door Sales job.I think if you're going into Marketing, you need to stand out.If you dont think that you can do better than tons fo other Marketing professionals, then dont do it.

I think you are correct, sir.

But Dru is right when he says that many marketers get stuck with telemarketing jobs. Probably not MBA people though.

I wonder what a masters in marketing would consist of. When I took a marketing class, it didn't seem like there was much else to it than what was in that textbook.

It involved stuff like making your own Advertisments, attempts at relaunching a defunct product etc.I have quite a few friends doing who have Marketing as their major, and they do a lot of this stuff. It's pretty interesting, and even though im not a Marketing student,i do enjoy these competitions n stuff where students bring up their own original Advertisments and Products. For most people atleast,it beats sitting on a desk and calcuting a company's NPV.
