This is a team that can win the World Cup. Look at the crowd of defenders and midfielders and the lack of attackers. France 98 anyone?

Brave and correct decision to pull Morientes out. They only need 3 strikers anyway and can only take Raul who is off-form not another too. Definitely looks like a 4-2-3-1 system with Torres hopefully. So I can understand the need for the double-pivot but 6 such players (Senna, Albelda, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas) is inefficient. I definitely don't see the need to take both Iniesta and Xavi.

Still great options in the wide areas with two of Luis Garcia, Reyes and Joaquin.

It's such a pitty I don't trust Aragones to be the man to realise the quality in this squad.

With all due respect Torres, Villa, Raul supported with attacking midfielders of Garcia, Reyes and Joaquin are a million times better than Guivarch, Trezeguet, Henry, Dugarry and Zidane were.

But I agree they are overloaded in midfield almost wanting to brag about that midfield production factory that started at Barcelona.

This is what you need to win the World Cup anyway. You need depth in midfield and balance in the team. They have all what it takes to lift the trophy.

Looks like a strong squad to me. Morientes doesn't deserve to be in the squad so he's correctly left out. Not sure what happened with Vicente but he was carrying an injury not too long ago.

    Casillas
Salgado - Puyol - Marchena - Del Horno
    Albelda - Alonso
    Joaquin - Garcia - Reyes
    Torres/Villa

Unless Iniesta is to be used in an attacking role (i.e. right forward) I still think this is too many. Out of those 6 midfielders give me a scenario where even 3 will all be used? Fabregas is possibly the only player who could play wide in a 4-man midfield. I can think of perhaps a 4-3-3 where Xavi is used as the most creative element as occasionally at Barca but hardly ever no with Deco. Even then 3 will be in reserve plus that team would be overly defensive considering two strikers and an attacker would be also on the bench.

France didn't win that World Cup from defensive/progressive midfielders. Sure they had Vieira in reserve but really it was attackers but not necessarily strikers such as Zidane, Djorkaeff, Dugarry and Henry that compensated for little upfront with Guivarc'h and Trezeguet.

Team that beat Brazil in Final:
Barthez; Thuram; Leboeuf, Desailly, Lizarazu; Deschamps; Karembeu, Petit; Zidane, Djorkaeff; Guivarc'h.

I agree that a depth midfield can overcome problems upfront, but I still don't think the depth is in the correct area. Progressive players are just that and taking 6 is probably one too many.

    Casillas
    Salgado, Puyol, Pablo, Del Horno
    Albelda, Xabi, Xavi/Fabregas
    Joaquin, Torres, Reyes

to make up for the lack of strikers
although it would definitely be alot better with Vicente in the place of Reyes

spain has a very good midfielders squad, but i am not so impressed with defens (not impressed with salgado & ramos) or attack, yeah villa and torres are good but what is raul doing there? morientes i think should have been called, and maybe even instead of raul.

Don't know that much about spanish players to be perfectly honest, I can't see them winning it though, they have an overrated flamboyant cockend in goal and no defence.

leader bla bla bla, still 3 is not enough imo, if one of those two topstrikers gets injured.... raul is just not in good form at all.

For those complaining about the lack of attackers: Villa will probably be used as a striker with Raúl in a supporting role. Torres will substitute Villa if necessary, and Luis García, Reyes and Iniesta can all replace Raúl.
