He was on top form last season. He developed alot and if I am not mistaken he got the Zamora trophy for best keeper.

But whenever he makes a silly mistake it is costly.

Valdes was always average at best.
I disagree. He's always had his good days. As Yamen says, his mistakes are costly most of times though.

IMO, that's got more to do with Barca's system of play especially in the Liga. The way the attack and get the possession, it's very hard for their opponents to create chances let alone scoring goals, and the Zamora trophy is given to the keeper who has the lowest goals to games ratio, not necessarily to the best keeper.

Valdes was always average at best.
He was one of the best keepers in Spain last season. He is overall pretty inconsistent, has good years and bad ones, and makes some costly mistakes, so he's by no means a top class goalkeeper, but he's quite decent.
