Messi is exceptionally talented skillwise, but not mentalwise. he has the mental abilities to perfect his technical game.
However, he cannot carry a team. Barcelona will do well to make sure they keep having midfielders that dictate the game, cause he wont. as long as you have those, messi will continue to rifle in sick amounts of goals.
However, he'll still be sucking major balls when playing a team that is good at defending deep and controlling space. Milan's injurydeprived defence held him. Inters very good treble winning defence held him
Our defence would hold him, but requires the central cb to not make mistakes all game.
Christiano ronaldo, i think had more potential then messi, but didnt make most of it because of his mentality. he needs good playmakers in his team, and can carry his team a bit, by his incredible movement. he was close to killing spain out of the tournament. but lets be fair, portugals midfield was goddamn amazing. How they raped the dutch was just amazing.
Ibrahimovic. Best target striker in the world. doesnt neccecarely need a team around him. can perform against any type of defence in the world. with sweden, he often dropped down to center midfield, to collect the ball and distribute it around, as sweden was incompetent to do it themselves.
Zlatan fits perfectly in a killer team that is mostly killing opponent creativity. He'll make sure when you get the ball that it gets forward. just hoof it at zlatan, he'll controll it, hold it, eighter try something crazy, or he'll redistribute it. Not a single player in the world is as good at that as he is.
If i could handpick the player to complete our 3-5-2 it would be zlatan.

This is not even close to an argument.
How can a forward of the current generation distinguish himselves from the all time greats, when the quality of defences worldwide is at an all time low ?
Physical power football created a generation that forgot how to controll space, keeping it small. double marking, intercepting passes and player runs, breaking down the build up.
The true greatest football players, were the ones that excelled during the late 80ties till early 2000. When defences were formidable, when the players excelled in tactical and technical ability to stop attackers, rather then the vicious fouls from the mid 80ties and before.
Maradona ? cool story bro, took 1 excellent italian to manmark.
Messi a good player ? cool story bro, took a 35 year old nesta to shut him up. Nesta, who was not even close to the brilliant defender he was a decade ago.
lets rather look at a player who went against these defences of kings, and came out on top as champion
Ronaldo. comes to big time chokers barcelona, scores 34 goals first season. he was 21.
Later goes to even bigger times chokers inter milan, a mediocre inter milan. carries them nearly past the arguably best ever juventus side, scoring 25, that is 40% !! of their goals in serie a. THE serie a teams, those that messi still failed to score a field goal against.
leads them to victory in the uefa cup.
Goes to world cup in france, one of the strongest world cups in history, if not the strongest. becomes its best player, despite zidane beeing also magnificent. Played the final despite beeing ill. would have been a diffrent game if he was fit. brazil surely missed his form.
Gets career ending injury. comes back as a fat man. a much slower man, not half the player he was. STILL was the best striker in the world. still made a diffrence at real.

zidane. significantly better then xavi. Quite obvious since zidane put his trough balls against stacked defences where xavi has acres of space. and passing is xavi's main attribute. zidane has 500 main attributes.

In a strong spanish league, that domminated europe.
