Inter opt for Solari power
Thursday 7 July, 2005
Inter have finally completed the signing of Real Madrid winger Santiago Solari on a free transfer.
The Argentine midfielder passed his medical on Wednesday and has today officially put pen to paper.
Solari is contracted to the San Siro outfit until June 2008 and will net around £1.8m a season.
The South American has now returned to Spain, but he will be back in Italy on Saturday full of eagerness.
"Inter are a great club," he stated. "I will do what I can to do my very best for the Nerazzurri colours.
"Boss Roberto Mancini believes in me as he really wanted me. He already tried to sign me two years ago while at Lazio.
"We will now finally win Lo Scudetto together, I can make that promise to the fans."
Solari was initially linked with a move to Inter back in the summer of 2002, but the switch collapsed after no agreement was reached over personal terms.
Inter are also keen to sign Walter Samuel from Real Madrid but talks are proving problematic.
Real are prepared to sell but no fee has been agreed between the clubs and the Argentine defender's wages are also an obstacle to get over.
