When you see the behind the scenes stuff you realise what a great player Pepe is to have in the squad. Plus, this season he did well. He's never going to be a superstar but he is useful. Tonight he was one of the few who did not freeze under the pressure, he kept up his intense game, with mixed success, and the team misses that when he is out.

Giovinco might be a much better player, more talented and everything but the attitude that Pepe has, the attitude he has shown, the character he demonstrated especially in the celebrations with the other players in the locker room is something Giovinco can not even dream of.

Pepe's definitely a glue guy. One of those teammates who everybody seems to like, and he obviously has a few close friends on the team. Almost never lacking for effort, no doubt trains very hard, completely willing to do whatever the coach requires of him. Has some versatility. He's a fantastic teammate, and as we've seen, he has the occasional stunning moment in him.

I have definitely criticized that 2.5 + 7.5 deal many times, but Conte has brought out the best in him this season, and Pepe has really turned his game around; the club has spent a lot of money in much, much worse ways. He's been a very important role player, and adds solid depth to the club moving forward. Between he and Martin, we have those utility guys who should really help next year, with the increased work load.
