I'm trying to think what would make someone who gets pulled over with his girlfriend and child can do that would lead to a rational police officer emptying four bullets into him. Reach for his wallet? That's what the cop says in the video.

There is no excuse for what he did. we don't know the full story but what we do know is that a cop shot a dude four times while the guy was in his car with a seatbelt on and no weapon showing.

I've said this before. Getting excited about email servers is like getting excited about credit default swaps. Compared to someone getting blown away by a cop, is it really surprising that one elicits more emotional reaction than the other?

Statistics.

Of course it is virtually impossible for anyone to know ihow many of those acquittals were justified, and how many weren't, but the general picture is very very dammning.
People forget that even if something goes to trial, police are subject to due process as well as any other defendant in a court of law. I think people have this extra-judicial mentality that just because there's a YouTube video or a story that makes people angry in the news that somehow means we throw our judicial process out the window. Proving intent, motive, etc., is challenging enough to pin on drug kingpins, let alone a cop who is expected to brandish his weapon as part of his legal responsibilities on the job.

I get that, and I do believe that holding the justice system above mob mentality is one of the most important characteristics of a modern functioning society.

But that doesn't mean that the justice system is above criticism - especially in this case, where it is to some degree the system investigating against their own members, creating a conflict of interest that should always be subject to intense scrutiny. And when the results, as shown in the links I've posted, seem to do everything but disprove those doubts & criticisms...

When it concerns the person who may well be the next President, I think it's a pretty big deal.

This stuff happens on a regular basis, and now everyone is going to attribute it to Dallas. :sergio:
If the motives are the same as Dallas, then it is a pretty big deal and not some run of the mill stuff.

Can't imagine the mayhem if Trump gets elected.
Don't think it will be as bad as the last 8 years

This country is so fucked. Hillary v Trump. Mass shootings routinely. Police shooting civilians or people shooting police routinely. Both political parties completely apart from one another. Race relations getting worse and worse partly because the two parties are so far apart. Corruption in politics rising. Look at the last 8 Obama years and 8 Bush years before him. Before Bush it was Clinton and before him another Bush. And guess what? Looks like we will have another Clinton next. Or Trump the gorilla. I don't kno what we can do it feels like there's no way to turn this around. The wealthy and powerful elite on both party sides will never work in our best interests and the chaos will just continue. Maybe I could move I honestly don't kno. Learning anew language can't hurt as I consider whether to leave this failing country. I hate to be so negative but it just feels like there is nothing to be proud of this country. Its very sad.

So because someone is black they should get different treatment when pulled over because of their risk assessment? That's what Zach is saying, it sounds like to me.

Those cops involved in those shootings shoot be tried with first degree murder. There's no excuse for what they did, ending someone's life because you got scared is not a legitimate reason. If I'm walking down the street and a black person spooks me, I don't expect to get away with murdering them.
The officer will take extra caution and is more alert to suspect movement.
So if you cooperate and are friendly towards the officer, you get the same treatment.

The mistake you make is thinking cops shoot people for fun.
In reality, they all hope they never have to. There are entire procedure to cope with the trauma of shooting/killing a person.

A fine gentleman of the law shoots to defend his life, not cause he wants to kill a black man.

Have you ever had a situation where you feared/realised you could die ? Or might be in danger ?

You need to have had it to understand

Not all hope is lost. The country is still capable of achieving feats like these
