This will be a hard one. a very hard one. tbh this game could make the difference. If we lose here, i'd say we screwed up 2nd place and we should see that we somehow manage to get an uefa-spot (milan/fiorentina won't sleep forever). If we show reaction and we show determination, i think we can win this one. We need a strong del piero tonight, but i'm not oo much worried about him; he'll make his game, get freekicks, etc...

As for our lineup i'm not too much concerned, trez's absence can be compensated with palla/iaq/dp. I'm still really waiting for palla to explode, just like he did as he scored that hattrick some time ago. He definately IS that type of player who can blow a game whereas in other games he plays rather crappy. His form is getting better i'd say, let's hope he can prove us all (and especially ranieri) what he's really worth.

The zanetti-absence worries me a little more. He had some brilliant games at the moment, and it will definately be hard to replace him. I kinda hope ranieri plays tiago, for i still think that he can do better. Man, he would need ONE good game to get back into consideration. I still can't believe we paid that much for a player who cannot do one good game. I'd say, let's give him a shot; we don't have 1 million possibilities, so why not try him (once again)

Now the referee will be crucial in this game. Just think about it. I would definately NOT want to be referee in that game. everyone knows it will be a physical game (it's a derby, what do you expect) and everyone knows the fans will be louder and against all decisions. Plus, with all the fuzz about the letter to figc, the accusations in the media etc... imagine there is some dubious action in penalty area for us or even against us. I think I would just shit my pants :) Good that i'm not tonight's referee :) I don't think we'll see any more scandalous decisions tonight. In fact, if i had to do a prediction, i'd say the referee will whistle a little bit more IN OUR FAVOUR (for we all know, a complete 100%-right game is rather impossible)
Nevertheless, i'm not that much worried about the referee, let's just play some football! i really hope torino catch a bad day, and we can score early goals. conceiding a goal on the other hand would be pretty bad.

If you don't know it already, bet365 will show the game (english comment) so go ahead and bookmark http://www.bet365.com/ already. :)

Let's bash 'em! My prediction for tonight :

Juve-Torino 3-1 (DP 2, Palla 1)

Serie A Preview: Juventus - Torino

What: Serie A Week 25
Who: Juventus - Torino
Where: Stadio Olimpico, Torino
When: Tuesday 26 February 2008, 20:30CET

Derby Daze

Following events in Reggio Calabria, Juventus perhaps have their minds elsewhere after the way in which they lost in controversial fashion. The Bianconeri lost 2-1 against Reggina on Saturday via a suspicious penalty and so they will be hoping to bounce back against cross-town rivals Torino in the latest Derby Della Mole.

Claudio Ranieri will have his work cut out however he will be able to count on Gianluigi Buffon who seems to have shaken off a back problem as well as Vincenzo Iaquinta who returns and will partner Alessandro Del Piero up front. David Trezeguet still has not recovered from flu.

The last time these two sides met was back in week six and Juventus, who were the 'away' side, managed to scrape a 1-0 win over the Granata thanks to a Trezeguet volley. Prior to this game you would have to wind the clocks back to the 2002/03 season when the Bianconeri did the double over Toro by winning 2-0 and 4-0 in the reverse. No doubt Juventus fans will be hoping their side manages another double to ensure they claim even more bragging rights.

Points are also at stake here as well as pride and the Old lady will be looking to start making up for lost points following the flop down in Calabria. Ranieri will need to ensure that he motivates his players for this game otherwise their ambitions of finishing second ahead of Roma will remain just so.

Draw Specialists

The Granata are Serie A’s draw specialists this season and they have drawn more games than any other and more than half of the 25 games they have played this season. Walter Novellino’s men have shared the points on no less than fourteen times so far and they will probably be looking to do the same against Juventus, with a win being extremely unlikely.

Toro come off the back of two successive draws and it seems likely as if it will be third time lucky given Juve’s hot and cold season. On the weekend the Granata were losing 4-1 to struggling Parma but they sensationally managed to peg the Crociati back to draw the game 4-4 and nick a point. Juve will need to be wary of their opponents goal threat.

The lethal pairing of Davide Di Michele and Alvaro Recoba are likely to start against Juve’s cagey defence and they will be expected to put the Bianconeri backline under all sorts of problems. Torino will also be relying on their Cuore Granata to spur them on to great things against their age old foes. Although they have been disappointing this season, expect Novellino’s men to put up a fight as it is a derby and these games always spring a few surprises.

Team news

Juventus

Juventus welcome back Buffon, Zebina and Iaquinta as well as Nocerino who come back from a one match ban. Zanetti will be out through suspension. Andrade is still out with a long term injury, otherwise Ranieri has a full squad to choose from.

Torino

Novellino has no such worries, the Granata coach has a full squad available to pick a strong starting XI.

FORM GUIDE

Juventus

23/02 (Serie A): Reggina-Juventus 2-1

16/02 (Serie A): Juventus-Roma 1-0

10/02 (Serie A): Udinese-Juventus 1-2

03/02 (Serie A): Juventus-Cagliari 1-1

30/01 (Coppa Italia): Juventus-Inter 2-3

Torino

23/02 (Serie A): Torino-Parma 4-4

17/02 (Serie A): Siena-Torino 0-0

10/02 (Serie A): Torino-Palermo 3-1

03/02 (Serie A): Reggina-Torino 3-1

27/01 (Serie A): Torino-Lazio 0-0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Recoba (Torino)

The Uruguayan is a player capable of turning any game on it’s head with his skill and incredible shooting abilities but saying that he can also go AWOL during the match and thus let his team down big time. He will be hoping to do the former against Juve.

Del Piero (Juventus)

Alex has been proving all his critics wrong this season and he will no doubt be looking to continue against bitter rivals Torino. Pinturicchio has been in fine form of late and he will need to be on top of his game in order to ensure his side come away with all three points.

PREDICTION

Given the recent form of both sides this one can go to any side. On paper Juve have enough quality to send Torino home empty handed but the Granata have the fighting spirit of a bull and thus they will make it difficult for the Bianconeri.

Juventus 2-1 Torino

Cairo: Ref won't ruin derby

Torino President Urbano Cairo is looking forward to tonight's Derby della Mole and isn’t worried Juventus will receive "compensation" from the referee.

While Toro are fresh from a 4-4 draw with Parma that saw them fight back from 4-1 down, Juve are desperate to hit back after a controversial 2-1 defeat at Reggina.

With the Cadetti champions having written a letter of complaint to the FIGC over the treatment of officials, there have been suggestions that tonight’s ref Nicola Rizzoli may be influenced in their favour, but Toro’s chief rejects that view.

“I’m not thinking about the referee giving any compensation,” Cairo insisted on Radio Kiss Kiss.

“On the contrary, I am sure that he will give an impeccable refereeing performance. I believe in the referees and each game is its own story.

“After the home game against Lazio I decided not to talk about the officials - everyone makes mistakes.”

Juventus won the sides’ first meeting 1-0 in Week 6 with a late David Trezeguet goal, but Cairo is expecting a spirited Granata response.

“It’s an important game, which means everything to us,” Cairo said.

“We want to play with determination and heart and I hope that a mixture of those two things will allow us to take away the result.

“We have to go out for the second half as we did against Parma.”

Torino (probable): Sereni; Comotto, Di Loreto, Natali, Pisano; Diana, Grella, Barone, P Zanetti; Stellone, Rosina

No recoba? I didn't follow any of the torino games, but isn't he a starter? don't know their strikers too much, but i thought recoba was one of their best strikers.
