Dreambox DM 500S is over two times cheaper than 7020, what's the catch? Those are the only two models I can get here.
The catch is the 7020 has more memory and processing power, it has a USB connection and other stuff...I would go for the 7020 model if the price is attainable...

I didn't find it over here (but tbh I only asked one guy) but the 500 was inflated double the price so I could only imagine how the 7020 would be.

Anyways there are rumors that the 8000 series is coming out in Sept, which supports HD. So Vla if you have your football season watching arranged already, I would hold out for the 8000.

I don't have my football season arranged, that's why I'm asking, I only got cable. :wallbang: But I'm getting sick of it and now I'm seriously thinking of going digital. However, the whole expenses will go straight out of my pocket so the money is an issue. If the 7020 only offers me more memory and the ability to record than that's something I can live without. So basically with the 500s I'd be able to get all the same channels that I would with the 7020, no?

And now the eternal question; is pirating the damn thing a 24/7 job, meaning will I have to tweak it and crack it every single day or can it be set once and everything afterwards is done automagically?

Yes channel wise there is no difference what you get with the 7020 is what you get out of the 500.

And about the eternal question, no its not a 24/7 job, but it takes time (at least in the beggining). Let me explain think of it as torrents or P2P sharing. You hook up your box to the Internet, tweak some files (it's linux so you will get acquainted quickly), then you have to find peers, and here where it is crucial.

There are millions out there sharing, but most of them want to share and benefit in the same time, so don't expect someone to accept sharing with you if you have nothing to offer. I for example got Showtime, so I go to a card sharing forum, post a post saying I have a gbox on DM with Showtime local card, interested people will PM me showing interest, if we reach an agreement we exchange lines (info about our boxes + password) to be plugged in a specific file. So far I got 40 peers, 20 of which are online the others haven't come online, so I will give them a week or so before deciding to axe them.

The point is, do you have a subscription to any TV network?

I think I understand the principle it works on. BTW, what line do you have to have for that cardsharing? I have ADSL, 3mbit download and 0.5mbit upload, I think that outta be enough..

As for your last question; the answer is no. I never had digital so I never had any subsrciptions. I just have a subscription for TV which you pay to the national television of Croatia(HRT). but I don't think that has anything to do with it, that's just something you must pay in order to watch TV in Croatia, it's sort of a tax. :D

So basically beside the Dreambox reciever, the sat dish, I also need to get a subscription card for some good channel, ie Showtime, because I need to share in order to recieve. P2P principle indeed... But that subscription I would get, and which I would share, I would need to pay monthly? Meaning that's something that can't be pirated? :D

Your line is three times better downstream and 2 times better upstream...so what do you think??

Well of course it could be pirated, I am no expert here, but this is the way I am doing it, because I already have showtime, its just easier and hassle free. But the server I bought in the beginning had everything but I wasn't content with it, too slow and some snagging here and there. Everything could be pirated you should know better ;)

In any case having a card isn't a must, it just makes your life easier. You could always find some willing to share with nothing to offer....me for example :p

Alright, I think I got the basics down, thanks for the help Rami. now I just gotta find a retailer here who's willing to do some "under the table" business and who'll make life easier for me. ;)

Oh and I just might take you up on that offer, I always enjoyed being a leecher and giving nothing in return. :D

You just made my life more complicated, now please elaborate. :D This card sharing method isn't the only way?
No he meant that you could find a server that gives you his connection for a small fee...for example I paid 60 euros for 6 month....but it was crap. You have to find a good one. Corvette's seems good.

Edit: Corvette you got CCcam??

Damn you guys, I wish I Could do all these, my Internet connection is 56K can't do anything

Vlatko go for 500 man, 7000 series have a place for cam, so you can use more cards at the same time, and the memory built inside etc.. those are only extras, 500 will work for you more than you imagine, and it is much cheaper there in Europe, probably around 200$.. You can connect it to your PC through a cable, or through a router, so this way you can solve the memory issue..

btw, you can also use it as a computer, you can buy a dreambox special keyboard and enjoy ;)

Yeah definetly I'll go for 500, it costs about 200€ here and the 7-series costs over 450€ so the difference in price is quite drastic. I'll see what money I can muster and search for the best deal I can find, but I'm definetly going for 500.
