Kaka: bring me Juve

Juninho judges Alex and Dinho

The world’s top free kick specialist, Juninho Pernambucano, gives his verdict on Alex Del Piero, Ronaldinho and the Italian who inspired him.

This Sunday’s San Siro battle will see set piece stars from Juventus and Milan face off, so Olympique Lyonnais hero Juninho will naturally be watching.

They are both so good and very different!” he told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

Del Piero tends to use his strength more often and that is why he manages to make the ball move almost in a straight line.

Ronaldinho, however, has a more subtle touch and tries to bend it as much as possible.”

Juninho is widely considered to be the world’s best free kick taker, but he took inspiration from watching Serie A as a youngster.

At the base of it all you need a natural ability, then your work in training helps to complete your technique.

The man who inspired me was Roberto Baggio! He was phenomenal, just incredible!”

Kaka books Juve date

Kaka is in doubt for tomorrow night’s showdown with Juventus, but insists he’ll not only be there, “I want to decide the match.”

The Milan star skipped yesterday’s training session due to a muscular problem and will require a late fitness test.

I will do everything I can to be there,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “In recent games I had been in great shape physically and hope to be the same way against Juve.

The Brazilian was in the news over the last 10 days for complaining about his new deeper role to accommodate Ronaldinho.

I confirm I have to improve my rapport on the field with Ronaldinho, as when people said I wasn’t sharp enough in the box, that was down to certain tactical issues.

However, I want to reaffirm that I have no problems with Ronaldinho, nor will I have trouble adapting. I like challenges and finding myself more in tune with him on the pitch is another challenge I wish to win.”

Some critics called Kaka egotistical for making those statements last week, but he assures it is all for the good of Milan.

I’m used to that attitude now. If you shoot then that was a mistake, if you pass it that was an error too. I don’t pay attention to the critics any more.

All I am interested in is helping the team and being decisive in any way possible, even if that means going in goal and saving a penalty!

Sunday’s showdown will decide who out of Juventus and Milan will give chase to runaway leaders Inter before the Christmas break.

“What do Inter have more than Milan? Six points.”
