Ibra facing trial by TV Monday 28 November, 2005

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could find himself facing another trial by television after pictures showed him throwing a ball at a Treviso player on Sunday.

Ibrahimovic put on a superb display for Juventus, setting up two goals and pulling the strings in the 3-1 win at the Stadio Delle Alpi, but the temperamental striker has a short fuse and another act of indiscipline may have landed him in hot water again.

Although referee Salvatore Racalbuto appeared to miss the incident, pictures clearly showed Ibra hurling the ball at Marcello Cottafava, striking him on the back of the head, after the defender had attempted to prevent the Swede from taking a quick throw-in.

This is not the first time Sweden’s Player of the Year has found himself in this position.

Last season he was banned for three matches after swinging an arm at Inter stopper Ivan Cordoba – an incident that the match official missed at the time.

Fabio Capello will certainly take a dim view of this latest development. Although a huge fan of the 24-year-old, the Juve Coach is all too aware of the increasing frequency of Ibrahimovic’s indiscretions.

The Malmo-born forward has only just served a ban for a foolish sending off in the final minutes of his side’s Champions League win over Bayern Munich this month, after which Don Fabio insisted he would put the player right.

"We will sort him out," he had claimed. "He is young and needs to learn about attitude, but we will put him in line."

It appears that Capello will have to draw that line again.

Most of you are being far too harsh on Chiellini. His determination is like no other player, great ability to penetrate defences, he has some good on-the-ball skills and some good technique. He also set up a goal, which was definately NOT a shot on goal.

He is a young player with some room and time to improve, his crossing, positioning and defence could be better granted. He was an asset yesterday though, as he did not give anything costly away defensively and contributed with an assist. Add to that him and Zambrotta give us some extra width and passing options in offense.
Don't get me wrong here, Chiellini is a great young player, however yesterday he just did not impress me at all and gave the ball away too much. His crosses from the wing were terrible most of the time and I have to say I thought it was a shot, not a pass. Both Blasi and Chiellini were the two worst players on the pitch for Juventus yesterday in my honest opinion.

I agree with you, that his crosses need working on. Though the thing that I like about him is, that he actually is in the position to cross. We all love Pessotto, but he does not give us the attacking options, which Chiellini on the hand does give us. Chiellini is a two-way player, he is both involved in attack and defence. With Zambrotta on the other flank doing the same tactically, we've got some balanced wings.
Though Mutu also takes some credit for giving us some balanced wingplay against Treviso, opposite to normally only having crosses from the right from Camo. Nedved, a good player and can really spark the attack, does not really offer much width.
Back to Chiellini, I still think his assist was meant as a pass. Though that's in the eye of the beholder.. Also giving Chiellini below 6 or even 5.5 seems harsh to me, as all our players yesterday weren't all that far apart from each other in their respective performances.

Capello: “We’ve been good!”

Fabio Capello is satisfied with the team’s performance and the win over Treviso, which is the twelveth out of the thirteen matches played in the championship. The Bianconeri boss said: “We’ve been good, we played a good match, playing like we wanted and how we expected. I’m very happy about how we faced the match, we were playing well in the first half too when we went one goal down, the only problem was that we could not realize our scoring chances. Treviso were positioned well on the pitch, they attempted on goal twice and scored once. We showed continuity, we did not lose control when we went one goal down against skillful and strong minded opponents. Undoubtedly, we felt some pressure as it is never easy to catch up, against any team. I was happy about what we were doing and hopeful too because we were playing and fighting with aggression and finally everything went well”. He’s asked about Ibrahimovic who did not scored but turned out to be a precious assist man: “He’s very good and fast when he moves along the flanks, he can put in very fast balls. A great player for a great Juve”.
