Ranieri’s ready for Roma

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri doesn’t expect Roma to be distracted by European engagements when they arrive in Turin tomorrow night.

The Giallorossi have to entertain Spanish champions Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, but they first face a crunch match against third-placed Juventus.

While the Old Lady have the advantage of focusing solely on the League, Roman native Ranieri doesn’t expect that to be a factor.

There’s no chance of Roma being distracted,” the former Chelsea boss claimed.

If the game were after the Champions League clash then it would be possible they would have lost something, but not this way.

“Any side that takes on Juventus gives its best and this will be a classic fixture that is worth so much, even if it is just the fourth game of the second half of the season.”

The first meeting between the two sides finished 2-2 in Week 4 and Juve stole an equaliser at the death through Vincenzo Iaquinta.

We were curious to know what we could do,” Ranieri recalled. “Everyone knew all about Roma, but all anyone knew of Juve was that we were fighting for something important.

It was an important game where we grabbed a draw at the end.”

The wily Roman tactician was reluctant to discuss team selection, but revealed that he has no new selection problems.

I’m not ruling anything out,” he said. “It’s not always best to make tactical changes, but I’m not ruling it out.

David Trezeguet has recovered from the 'flu’ and Mauro Camoranesi’s back problem is over, so we have options. We are in the same position as we were in Udine.”

Despite the hype and hysteria in Turin, Ranieri was keen to stress that his side are treating this game like any other.

We have prepared for this game in the same way we have for all the others,” he explained.

But Roma are Roma and they are a great side – it will be a good game.

Our Scudetto is to give the best in every game. Roma are above us, so obviously we will try and catch them just as they are aiming for Inter.

The important thing is that we are up the top. We are like explorers trying to go as far as possible.”

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Zebina, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Camoranesi, Nocerino, Zanetti, Nedved; Trezeguet, Del Piero

Serie A Preview: Juventus – Roma

PREDICTION

It is definitely a tough match to pick a winner in, so my instincts are telling me that this one is headed for a draw. With Juve’s fine home record, and the Giallorossi’s great record away from home, the sides are somewhat balanced in that regard. Both sides play a similar brand of football, and therefore this match seems as if it is destined to be an entertaining battle of two quality midfields, whereby one opportunity may be enough to make or break the contest. A low scoring draw is on the cards for sure…

Juventus 0 - 0 Roma

Ranieri: «Always great matches against Roma»
After Udinese, it's time to face Roma now. This February is offering a lot of intriguing matches for Juventus, who keep chasing the highest positions in the League. After winning at the Friuli Stadium, Ranieri's men can attempt to get closer to second place, now four points away and occupied by the Giallorossi themselves.

An exciting match is expected, as is always the case when Juventus and Roma face off. This is how Juventus' Manager commented the upcoming game during today's press conference: «There have always been great games between these two teams, the same will happen this time. We'll be facing a great team who’ll play with all they've got despite having to face Real Madrid so soon. They play well, and fast, and they don't need to rely solely on Totti, because they have other excellent players. They're in front of us and we'll try to catch up. This match is very important in that sense, even if there are still a lot of games to play».

The Bianconeri and the Giallorossi face up for the third time this season, after the summer friendly in Cesena – won 5-2 by Del Piero and co. – and the 2-2 draw in Rome. That was an important away draw. «It wasn't the turning point – Ranieri continued – but certainly it was part of the process. It was the first time we came back from behind, we got the equalizer at the end. Back then we were curious to see what we could do, whereas Roma's strength was well-known. After all the intervening matches, we've become consistent and we confirmed that we can fight for an important placing. By doing our best every time we'll win our own personal League title and up until now I'm very happy with what we've done».

After Saturday's game there will still be several points up for grabs and anything could happen. But with the Champions League coming back, Inter Milan, Roma and AC Milan will have those games to play too, and Juventus could try and take advantage of that. This is how Ranieri analyzed the situation. «It's not true that this is a special moment in our season, it's no good thinking there are easy games and difficult ones. Each match needs to be played in full. It'll be important for us to stay up there in the last two months, and then we'll see. That's another reason we’re rooting for our rivals playing in Europe to do well».

For some reason Andy always gets away with all these insults. No offence Andy, I am not bothered with it though. It's a part of your writing style and in a lot of cases it adds flavour to your posts. :pint:

I don't always get away with insults. I'm sitting on 8 points right now, so another warning will come eventually. Then the likes of Lamtard won't have to deal with me. :pint:

Hey!Leave Andy alone or I am going to shoot ya all. :D
It only seems like that. Andy was banned many times and atm he's only 2 points away from 3 weeks ban.
Andy's posts are moderated the same way the other's posts are
I was just joking, mates. Though you're still a bad moderator, Alen. Do you even do your job? :D

Watch out then. Why do I have a feeling you will be close to the ban after Juve-Roma match? :D
