Oh yes, Lippi's last season was terrible. The infamous Montero-Legrottaglie partnership(and the equally terrible Iuliano and Tudor as their subs). Ferrara, who wasn't expected to play much anymore, had to fill in again and he like Montero sadly could not handle it anymore. Lippi had a hand in tinkering midgame that season, while his starting line-ups were always the same incorrect one. Appiah, Tacchinardi, Thuram Montero, Legro and an unfit Del Piero were having a poor season, but always got the nod. With the exception of Zambrotta and the occasional glimpse from Maresca, the rest of the players didn't do much better.

I remember how Lippi cost us the coppa italia final. We were dominating Lazio 2-0, only for Lippi to make some strange subs at halftime to gift the game back to lazio 2-2 (with Lazio winning on aggregate).

We could never keep a clean sheet that season, that defence was definitely worse than the current one. I think that was statistically the worst defence in 40 years or thereabouts. I think the first half of that season was ok though, when Nedved, Trez and Di Vaio combined ever so well and were true a scoring trio. Second half was only misery..

You aren't giving our squad enough credit. Ofcourse the players you mentioned are the stars, but you cant forget about Chiellini,Zanetti,Iaquinta and Zebina and then you have others who were unlucky with Ranieri's tactics like Tiago and Palladino. Both have the talent. We saw that last year. Andrade, Legro (in form)and Marchionni are good players too. And Sissoko is looking good so far. With this squad we could be playing any formation, there is enough variety in player-styles, but Ranieri sticks to the same.

We are better then Fiorentina in every department except defence. As for Roma, their defence is better, but for the rest we have the advantage. (Midfield is questionable)

Altough the depth could be better I admit.

Our starting XI doesnt need more then 3 new players. A new LB, a replacement for Nedved and 1 CB.

Enough credit? Have you any idea how lucky this squad is to be 3rd in serieA?

This is the reason that I don't berate Ranieri as much as I would have because if i decide not to cut him any slack.

This squad with its players and style of play should be midtable.

Look at the players you are mentioning like they are world class talents. Chiellini is a good player and may develop into a great 1 and is made to look good cos of the dross around him.

Zanetti is more or less in the same category having a good season does not mean he is a permanently classy player. Tiago is not entirely blameless in his failure till now and as for palladino, I dont see what the fuss is about.

Should Zanetti be a stand out in a scudetto chasing side? Of course not but look at what he is playing with and now that Sissoko is there he is not as dominant in our midfield as he used to look.

Iaquinta is a good pro but no better than Vucinic, in terms of ability he is not as good as vucinic but he does give you more in terms of effort but just because he is at Juventus does not suddenly make him a great player.

But the big whopper is you saying it is questionable that a side that has perrotta, mancini, taddei, pizarro, de rossi, aquilani in their midfield is comparable to our nedved, camoranesi, tiago, nocerino, sissoko, marchionni, zanetti, salihamdzic etc.

Come on lets be honest and sensible here, there are too many players in our squad that pre calciopoli should not even be there.

As for the argument about which had the leakiest defence, statistically, the side that Lippi last had was worse but then again the strikers they faced are better than what this side is facing now.

It was so hard for me to even think about football last 2 days, i was so depressed and i did not even bother to read any posts.

I can understand Roma game, CR brought Nocerino to protect result and it worked somehow, even i was not happy at all with Noce's performance, well now in last 5 games.

So this time CR tried to do the same, it could even work, but thanks to Legro's "pass" to their striker we got one more in our net. Very similar situation with 3rd goal.
I think this was actually reality check of our poor defense who show us what they really can do and how well they can play together sometimes. We seriously have to buy some good players and spend much more before we even can think of replacing of CR.

I still believe CR doing best with team he has, even i do raise questions, why not Standardo, Tiago , even Brazzo are not involved any more. I can blame CR for, and i do for his defensive and negative approach for some games, but i can not blame him when our defense make horrible or stupid mistakes. Most of games where we lost points, were not because of negative approach of CR but because of individual mistakes in our defense.

If we don't have Chiellini and Legro at CB positions i can see us always loosing a points. Even this partnership can suck sometimes, but that is best we got at the mo.
In reality our players are bit overrated by some of us and just by watching our last game again you can see how good we are as a team, individuals..
Only positive from this game for me was play by Sissoko and Pala..Maybe this is just start of waking up, and i hope we wake up before is too late..

Different in that this season we actually beat Roma once 1-0 and drew 2-2 in another match. And in Lippi's last season, we got pantsed 4-0 by Roma. That "definitely different"? (How conveniently people blackout over Lippi's last season with us.)

The defensive line now is as sucky as ever for Serie A. But they're performing better than the backline did back in 2003-4, that's for sure.

Actually , the worst thing ever happened in the Lippi's last season , when we were home humiliated 4-2 by Parma , Crespo scored hattrick . and He was resigned a day after .

sorry for being Impudent , Mod , but still Today's Juventus is way worse than Lippi's last season , if not Buffon saves our asses so many times this season , we would easily ended somewhere between UEFA cup or Intertoto zona if it's still existed .

No offence , but i'm tired of This season's Drama .

But what the Hell , i can wait until season ended and waving my hands to the Idiot coach .

we can't deny the statistic , but in the mentally term we also can't deny that that was more painful to watch Today's Juventus compared to the Lippi's last season Juventus apart from the league standing .

That was the season it was known that he was off to take charge of Inter and Dp got injured.

In Lippi's last season we set one unpleasant record. For a team that was always proud with it's defense we managed to concede 42 goals in 34 serie A matches.
In previous seasons, before season 2003/04 we conceded 29,23,27,20 respectively and in the following 2 seasons with Capello, in 38 matches we conceded only 27 and 24 goals.
We couldn't concede even 30 goals per season in the past and following seasons, but in that season we conceded unbelievable 42 pieces.
Roma beat us 4:0, Lecce 4:3, Empoli 3:3, Milan 3:1, Inter 3:2.

Our defense was awful and we finished that season with 62 goals conceded in all competitions.

I think if someone offered us 4th place at the beginning of the season we would have bitten their hand off, given the average squad we've got to choose from. I've not seen any of Juve this season other than highlights and the Fio match but I'd still bite that same hand if it were offered today. Remember its all a rebuilding exercise we shouldn't be expecting to compete with the likes of Inter & Roma just yet. Christ imagine if we were in the Cl now and playing United, Arsenal, Chelsea even Liverpool, we would be humiliated!

Thats not strictly true as under Lippi, Man united beat us 3-2, 2-1 at old trafford and 4-0 or was it 4-1 at dell alpi. under ancelotti united beat us 3-2 at home. Under Lippi Arsenal beat us 3-1 and NEWCASTLE beat is 1-0.

Those sides we put out are better than this 1 and like Tom said if this team was in the premiership with the complete lack of pace especially in the midfield, I shudder to think what would happen.

Those results don't entirely tell the story of those games to be fair, as I'm sure you know.

Ferguson and some of the Man Utd players have commented on the fact that they learnt much about European football after playing us, we literally gave them a lesson in football. Unfortunately, since then they - and other English clubs - have performed well against us.

i remember that game as it wasn't that long ago, giggs put two past gigi if am not mistaken. And they were the ones that gave us a lesson not the other around. The first game was an absolute gem from neddy though in old trafford.

That was in 2003, we played them back to back in the group stages and we lost almost our entire 1st team to a flu bug for the game at Old Trafford, they beat us 2 -1 and 3 nil in Turin 2 weeks later.

We went to the final after beating Real Madrid... Madrid had earlier knocked United out.

Even when they beat us in 98 they were knocked out by a Trezuget goal against Monaco, we went on and knocked Monaco out and went to the final.

So in short... If we get drawn against United in next seasons CL, they will more than likley beat us but we will knock out the team that eliminates them and go on to the final.
