That's why I said "injured...or players who couldn't continue". Marchisio was limping so maybe it wasn't just DN being precocious but it was Marchisio asking to be subbed because he couldn't continue. In any case, all three things happened at the very same time.

Matri was injured even before DN made the Pepe for Marchisio sub, so I guess that Marchisio asked to be subbed out even before Matri's injury.
