Italy midfielder Mauro Camoranesi is unlikely to take part in third-placed Juventus' home game against Atalanta because of a muscle problem that kept him out of last weekend's 0-0 draw at AC Milan.

Captain Alessandro Del Piero is expected to return to the bench after starting Thursday's 2-1 defeat at Empoli in the first leg of an Italian Cup last 16 tie.

David Trezeguet, Serie A's top scorer with 11 goals, and Vincenzo Iaquinta are tipped to lead the Juve attack.

I thought Ranieri said, just before the empoli match, that Camo is fine but he didnt want to risk him in the coppa game.

A new referee was assigned to the match. He is called Orsato and I guess this will be his first Juve match. He was the referee whose name was revealed at the beginning of this season by Livorno's site before the officialization of referees assigning of that week. That made a big scandal in Italy at that time.

Are you serious man? This season has been the worst I've seen from TLN in a long time in terms of live coverage. The only one they show live is Sunday's evening match.

tln is stupid. Last year the showed 3 live games. The 2:30 saturday game, the early 9 am game, and the sunday afternoon game at 2:30. So far this year the only live match they show is the sunday afternoon game at 2:30. For some reason they play the tape delay of saturdays game at 9 which means they can't show the game thats live at 9. They've finally smartened up and will show the 9 am live game live. Mark probably sent one of his angry e-mails to them. :D

Yes, but gazzetta haven't updated that since before the Milan game.

I thought his injury wasn't serious

Anyway, I'd play this

Buffon

Zebina - Legro - Chiellini - Molinaro

Nocerino - Zanetti - Nedved

Iaquinta - Trezeguet - Del Piero
Thats exactly what I would do if Camoranesi isn't game ready. Lets face it, the strength of this team is goaltending and offense... may as well play to those strengths. No Camoranesi-less midfield is going to dazzle us with possession and playmaking, so may as well have the three hardest workers there feeding the forwards and intercepting any Atalanta attacks before they happen.

If Juve is ahead by 65 mins, I'd give these guys a shot:
Tiago for Zanetti
Marchionni for Nedved
Palladino for Del Piero

If not, pretty much hold down the fort with what you have... I don't see the three potential subs, Salihamidzic or Grygera adding anything the starting 11 can't do at least as good or better.

PS: TLN has been craptastic this year. Did they blow their funds on the U20 tourney and Copa America or something... no reason why they can't show at least two live games, if not back to the usual three.

This is silly. What you saw from him against Milan, 17min??

Against Empoli he was our best man.
That doesnt say much.
The whole reserve team sucked against Empoli but DP didnt, that doesnt mean he played played a good match but he just didnt suck like the others did.

Anyway if Ranieri was to play a 4_4_2,then Iaquinta & Trezy upfront but if he will play a 4_3_3 then Dp will definitly start.

Serie A Preview: Juventus - Atalanta

Who: Juventus (3rd, 26 points) v Atalanta (6th, 21 points)
When: Sunday, 9th December 2007, kick-off 15:00 CET
Where: Stadio Olimpico, Turin

Juve Strong At Home

Juventus continue to impress on their return to top-flight football and last week picked up a deserved 0-0 draw at European Champions AC Milan.

The result helped consolidate their place in the top-four Champions League positions, but at the same time it sees them lose ground on league-leaders Inter and second-placed Roma.

Both of the top-two followed up weekend victories with midweek successes and Juve now trail the pair by eight and five points respectively.

Although the Bianconeri have proved that they can live with the big boys by holding both Inter and Roma to draws this season, a Scudetto challenge is now looking unlikely.

A win on Sunday against Atalanta is imperative if they are to avoid falling further behind. Claudio Ranieri’s men go into the game with the second best home record in Serie A.

Juve have won five, drawn one and lost one from their seven games, scoring 19 goals and conceding just three.

Atalanta Unbeaten Away

Atalanta have also exceeded expectations this term and moved up to sixth position (with a game in hand) in the table, following a stunning 5-1 thrashing of Napoli last week.

The Orobici have only lost twice this season and are looking odds-on to finish in the UEFA Cup positions if they can keep up their current form.

Only four teams – Inter, Roma, Juve and Napoli – have scored more goals than Atalanta this season, so this tie is intriguingly poised.

The key reason for Atalanta’s fine form has been evergreen midfielder Cristiano Doni. The 34-year-old has been one of the players of the season so far, scoring an incredible seven goals in just 11 appearances.

Doni has been showing the kind of form that won him a call-up to the Italian national team for the ill-fated World Cup in Japan and Korea in 2002.

However not everything has been rosy for the Nerazzurri this campaign. Their week 12 home match with Milan was abandoned after just eight minutes following crowd trouble, while striker Riccardo Zampagna, who had been in outstanding form, is set to leave in January after a punch-up with Coach Luigi Del Neri in training.

In 46 past meeting between Juventus and Atalanta in Turin, Juve have won 29, drawn 13 and lost just four times.

Indeed the last time Atalanta beat the Bianconeri away from home was in 1989, when Claudio Caniggia, a player who just months later would haunt Italy in their own World Cup, scored the only goal of the game.

FORM GUIDE (All Serie A)

Juventus

10/31 Juventus 3-0 Empoli

11/4 Juventus 1-1 Inter

11/11 Parma 2-2 Juventus

11/25 Juventus 5-0 Palermo

12/01 Milan 0-0 Juventus

Atalanta

10/31 Atalanta 2-2 Cagliari

11/4 Catania 1-2 Atalanta

11/11 Atalanta A-A Milan

11/24 Inter 2-1 Atalanta

12/02 Atalanta 5-1 Napoli

TEAM NEWS

Juventus

Coach Claudio Ranieri rested a host of players during the Coppa Italia defeat to Empoli on Thursday night. Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet were among a host of big names left at home.

They will all return on Sunday, while Ranieri has to choose whether Vincenzo Iaquinta, Alessandro Del Piero, or both, start with David Trezeguet up-front. The Tinkerman may launch a trident attack. Long-term injury victims Jean-Alain Boumsong and Jorge Andrade are still out.

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Zebina, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Nocerino, Zanetti, Nedved; Del Piero; Trezeguet, Iaquinta

Atalanta

Former Milan midfielder Diego De Ascentis is available again after returning from suspension. Atalanta boss Luigi Del Neri is expected to make just one change from the team that thrashed Napoli last week, with De Ascentis replacing Tiberio Guarante.

Claudio Rivalta is still out, while Riccardo Zampagna has been frozen out of the squad after his bust up with Del Neri, and will leave in January.

Atalanta (probable): Coppola: Belleri, Carrozzieri, Capelli, Bellini; Ferreira Pinto, De Ascentis, Tissone, Langella; Doni; Floccari

PLAYERS TO WATCH

David Trezeguet (Juventus)

When a player has scored 11 times in just 14 Serie A games, it really is difficult to choose anyone else as the man to watch. Trezegol has made the best start to a club season in his entire career, and he was desperately unlucky to not score goal number 12 last week when he crashed the ball against the woodwork at Milan. Atalanta beware!

Cristiano Doni (Atalanta)

You only have to look at Doni’s goal tally for the season to realise what incredible form he is in. Seven goals in just 11 appearances this campaign make the former Sampdoria man a huge danger-man on Sunday. The 34-year-old is still one of the best attacking midfielders in Serie A.

PREDICTION

Atalanta will certainly provide a tough test for Juventus, but I expect the home side to pull through comfortably in the end.

Juventus 3-1 Atalanta
