[Serie A] Juventus - Roma (8 Viewers)

Fabio Capello believes that his Juventus side could end Roma’s Scudetto hopes on Thursday.

"A victory would see us move 13 points clear of a direct rival for the title, therefore basically taking them out of the Scudetto equation," the tactician said today.

The Delle Alpi clash is set to be a heated affair given the rivalry between the two clubs, especially after Capello, Emerson and Jonathan Zebina all left for Turin in the summer.

"I have no time to think about Roma’s 4-0 win in the last game, or about Francesco Totti’s four-fingered hand gesture," Capello added.

"There are also no thoughts of a vendetta on my part against an environment who didn’t recognise my achievements when I left.

"All that I am concentrated on right now is winning the game. I would even be happy with just a 1-0 win."

Will it be an emotional occasion for the former Milan boss? "I had some marvellous moments in the capital," he admitted.

"I will probably feel a few different sensation tomorrow night but then I will just focus on my Juventus side."

The Bianconeri have made a stunning start to the season but Capello is aware of the Roma threat despite their difficulties.

"We are top because we are a compact and determined side," he added. "I have a squad who offer me guarantees but also some champion players.

"Roma? They are improving and have players that can make the difference such as Totti. He can be kept quiet for the entire game but then invent something right at the end."

Capello was also asked for his thoughts on the news that Antonio Cassano will start against his side.

"I’m happy for the player but not for us because he is an extremely dangerous opponent," he concluded.

Capello has named a 21-man squad with Paolo Montero, Nicola Legrottaglie, David Trezeguet, Antonio Chimenti and Mark Iuliano omitted for one reason or another.

Juventus squad: Buffon, Ferrara, Tacchinardi, Tudor, Pessotto, Emerson, Ibrahimovic, Del Piero, Nedved, Birindelli, Camoranesi, Appiah, Zambrotta, Blasi, Thuram, Bonnefoi, Kapo, Olivera, Zalayeta, Zebina, Cannavaro.

Well roma will start with all three (cassano, totti, montella).

This will be a very interesting situation.

Either its very good for us or very bad.

Well the bad thing first is that (god forbid) their tridant forwards get the better of our defenders and midfielders. But the postive thing about it is that i don't think both lines(defense, and midfield) would collapse against the roman attack. So basically we have a chance their.

The good thing is that roma's midfield collapses, becuz they dont have enough defensive midfielders. They basically only have dacourt and perrota, and dacourt is the toughest one in that midfield. Perrota is much better in offense i think. So roma can be going to suicide their.

juventus have played some difficult opposition so far this season but really only bayern munich could be counted as such a great team as juve, and they were defensive enough when we beat them 1-0 nil. I expect this to be a fairly open and very exiting match and i cant wait to prove everyone wrong who suggest juve are just a boring team as i said before a solid platform at the back laying the foundations for an attractive pulsating 2-0 victory.

also i agree that montella is their main threat

i cant wait for the match especially when i get to watch it live

oh i like Capellos attitude, Lippi would have only said it is no desicive match (ok this might be to early in the season) but he would say a lost would not hurt and Capello is totaly different!

forza juve!

Alex: Ah, how many . Surely the top of the top was Montella’s 94th minute goal in the 2000-2001 season that allowed us to tie a game we were down 2-0 with 15 minutes to be played. What an orgasm! It basically allowed us to win our 3rd Scudetto, I can still remember the play, Nakata, who had earlier pulled one back for us, enters the left side of the box, he shoots, Van der Sar palms the ball away, and Montella volleys home from short-range. A goal that enveloped all that Roma is about. The Dream.

don't think that de rossi is much of a threat anyway , and he wasn't gonna start as well.

Now if dacourt if injured than they will have a HUGE problem in their midfield, del neri even may switch back to having a two man attack cuz the midfield doesnt have much of big players which gives us the edge.

The Roma fixture is always one of the classics, especially after the recent off-the-field heated events during the past few seasons and the war of words that followed between the two clubs.

The 'Davids' affair, the 'Legrottaglie' matter, the behind the scenes tug of war for the Brazilian 'Lucio', Totti's infamous four-fingered hand gesture, Capello running towards Turin during the middle of the night, and Emerson insisting on joining Juve rather than opting for better offers from Real and Chelsea are all but few of the well publicised issues between the clubs.

Juve come to this match with last season's embarrasment at the Olympico still in the minds of their players. Revenge is a dish best served cold, so now is the perfect opportunity to do that and maybe this time Del Piero will instead give a five-fingered hand gesture !! Juve are having a dream start to the season, dropping only 2 points (against Palermo 1-1) in all competitions since the start of the season. The team coped well with the injuries of important players and the defence is holding extremely well lead by the ex-Parma trio of Cannavaro, Thuram, and Buffon.

This is going to be Juve's third real test of the season after passing the first two (against Ajax and Bayern) with ease. And as Capello mentioned, winning this match will push Roma out of contention for the title as the gap would widen to 13 points. Capello will be facing Roma for the first time after leaving them and is set for an emotional night. However, knowing every corner in Roma inside out would come to his advantage, especially that most players are there from last season.

The same couldn't be said about Roma who are passing through a difficult time. In Serie A the team is having mixed results and are in the 9th position, a full 10 points away from Juve with teams like Messina and Cagliari faring better. And while the Italian Champions League trio are flying high in Europe the Roman adventure is looking to be approaching a premature end. The players have been trained by 3 different coaches having to settle with different tactics each time. But Del Neri seems to be a good choice after the failing of Rudi Voller, even though the coach has failed to win a single point from Juve while coaching Chievo.

Giallorossi fans will be happy for the return of 'Peter Pan' Cassano but would be distressed about the midfield injury crisis they will be facing. De Rossi was left at Roma due to an injury whereas Dacourt have also been injured during training. That leaves Del Neri in a difficult situation with only Perrotta in that department so he should improvise by either playing Del Vecchio in left of midfield or pushing in one of the defenders to play in midfield. Another player missing would be Panucci due to his bust up with the coach. Roma's only ray of light would be from the tridente of Totti, Cassano and Montella, even though the idea of the tridente could be shelved due to the injury crisis. Bottomline: Roma need their captain to step up more than ever in this match.

Even though all indicators point towards a comfortable Juve win but in the calcio world there isn't such a thing as an easy prediction and anything can happen especially when the 'big' teams lock horns.

Good Luck Juve. Let's destroy them  !!
