I'm not going to comment on individual performances, as several people here have given accurate, and intelligent opinions on this matter.

Instead, i am going to talk about the team effort, and more importantly, the mentality.

Granted, this is an extremely small sample to glean any information from, but the mentality of the team is one that I haven't seen since pre-calciopoli, and the style of play is one that I haven't seen since the late 90's- early 2000's.

Juve took the game to Parma. their statement to parma, and hopefully to the rest of the opponents that they will face this year is "we will take the game to you. we are the ones who will dictate the style of play. you have two option. Keep up or go home"

gone are the days, I surely hope, of Juve being a reactionary team on the pitch, reading the flow of the match and then picking their spots to attack. They are now an attacking squad that forces the opposition to adjust, forces the opposition back on their own end of the pitch, and in turn, it will be up to them to try to create something out of nothing.

Juve dominated possesion, their midfield was absolutely dominant, and more importantly, they did this against a team, and these types of teams, that they struggled with last year.
Total agreement.

Oh, and we need to get rid of fucking Chelsea Dagger as the goal celebration song, jeez, we aren't a Championship team. Taking the English stadium thing a bit too far there.

My one disappointment today was Giacherinni.

He seemed very timid out there, and there was a lack of communication between him and others for 1-2's and run-throughs.

He was disappointing, yes. But the team was shy to pass the ball to him during the attack. almost like they were instructed to do so. Look how much of the attack went through Pepe. Plus, I saw instances where we were breaking away into attack with some space in front, and despite being free in space on the left, the balls didn't go to him. I think with more practice and understanding, and more importantly confidence, he will play better.

Pirlo is an absolute magician. What a signing he will be for us if he stays fit.

Lichtsteiner is an absolute beast of a fullback. He barely let anything go past him today and scored a great goal.

We have pretty good squad depth, something we have lacked for quite a while. All in all what a performance, brilliant way to start the new season. New stadium is fucking superb, atmosphere is fantastic.

This made me happy:

Maybe I'm being a bit over-optimistic here, but given our 65% possession, our higher number of fouls tells me that we used intelligent fouls to break up their play when they did manage to get the ball (except for DC's one of course).

Also, when you have that much more possession, I think having a lot of offsides is a good thing because you're constantly trying to break them down.

Apart from the penalty, they had one attempt on goal the whole match? And Buffon didn't have any saves to make? :touched:

The good thing about the offsides in this case are the type that Juve were called for.

It wasn't one of those Iaquinta-Amauri offisdes, where they seem to have a dog collar that is connected to an imaginary electric fence just behind the defense.

It was the types of offsides where the team was directing the flow of the match.

One of the things I liked the most in this game was the constant intelligent pressing produced by every single one of our players; it made it easy to recover the ball. This way Parma had really little time to think about what to do with the ball and they just couldn't impose their game. There is still a margin of improvement in that aspect, but it was undoubtedly better than what we were accustomed too. Nowadays it is really what makes the difference if your aim is to dominate the game (sure possession can help too, but it is not as important), as most big clubs do it. Especially Barca and Dortmund.
