When we played Atalanta with the 4-2-3-1 formation both Melo and PouPou pushed forward, thus we conceded 2 goals. And Melo scored that Awesome goal and had a chance to mark his 1st before that.
I know, I watched that game. So your saying they played to far up field and exposed the defense but your plan is to push them further upfield and one of them out to the side?

No, All i'm saying that if we play the 4-3-1-2 formation with both Alex and Diego the midfield won't have to get further up thus making us more solid defending fast counter attacks. but still we have to change it into a 4-2-3-1 if we head into HT without a lead.

Diego was clearly isolated earlier this season when playing between two strikers and three central midfielders. Even with Camo and Marchisio on the field he central three didn't provide enough creativity and Diego was forced to drop deep and pickup the ball with his back to goal, not to mention teams quickly learned that by doubling up on him they could shut down our attacks by marking him out of the game. Adding an old just recovered DP as a SS isn't going to lift much off of Diego's shoulders, he clearly plays much better in a 4-2-3-1 where teams have to watch for Gio and Camo too. The 4-2-3-1 benefits Diego greatly because he no longer has to drop deep and teams cannot just rely on marking him, this formation lifts responsibility off his shoulders and allows him space and time on the ball. IMO it also takes less responsibility off of our other midfielders who in a 4-3-1-2 would have to be all over the pitch but now with the 4-2-3-1 can focus more on their own areas of the pitch

Why are all of you guys convinced that Alex is old, slow and tired guy who can't give the team more than 50 minutes of play and score goal form PK and FK he's much more than that you know! just all of you remmember last season especially the 1st part of it where despite having spent a tiredsome summer playing in Euro 08, he was on fire since the first whisle, he single handadly pushed us to the knock-out stages of the CL, and he had his share of those legendary matches where he will give that magical pass like no other would, thus making that glorious 1-one-1 chance for Marchisio/Amauri/Iaquinta...etc.. to score the winning goal.

Belive me Kyle, Diego surely won't be isolated at least not with The Capitano ahead of him.

I am not writing DP off but adding him to the lineup isn't going to do much to help Diego out in a 4-3-1-2, DP plays further upfield than Diego he isn't going to drop deep and help out a Diego who himself has already dropped deeper than he should have to. Ale works his magic in the final third not central midfield. Adding DP into the mix may relieve some of the pressure on Diego but I don't want to revert back to a 4-3-1-2 and drop further behind Inter just so DP can play. No player is more important than the team, not even DP. He was excellent in the CL group stage but saying he single handedly pushed us through? Momo, Chiello, Manninger, and even Legro deserve a lot of credit for some great performances in last season's CL.

Ofcourse, its a team remmember but without Alex we wouldn't have beaten RM neither Zenit!
And we'll see in the next game whether Diego, Alex and Camo if played from start will form the perfect formation to both crush and defend against anytime in Italy and Europe.
