I dont care for this revinionistic BS now that he is gone. 2 of those 3 players are amongst my absolute favs (ale the most ofcourse 
and Gio I had big soft spot for since his debute ), it hurt me to see them part ways with our team, plus I have alot of respect for Toni, but IMO this is just flat out BS in hindsight.
Ale was in his last legs and hadnt in him to continue without starting anymore IMO, and it was contract dispute with the club, not just Conte who did everything in his power to get the results he did in those 3 magnificient years, and Ale who wasnt physically up for it anymore as starter wasnt part of those plans.
Also huge lol to fault him for Giovinco or Toni, Gio he used wrong at times as long ball receiving striker with his back to the goal, which was bizzare, but it was all about not fitting his tactic and generally not being good enough. Toni was just flat out useless and slow tree trunk for us, NOT A SINGLE PERSON HERE made a single noise about us keeping him. In fact was more critique about us even taking him in temporarily. The fact he is top scorer now doesnt change that whatsoever.
