I found this on FIFA website re offside rule: -
What does gaining an advantage by being in that position mean?
The International Football Association Board defines it as
- playing a ball that rebounds off a post or the crossbar after having been in an offside position, or
- playing a ball that rebounds off an opponent after having been in an offside position.

Because the ball rebounded off the post the catania player was 'offside'.
Nah, it was just a shit decision.

What you posted only means that you wouldn't flag someone offside if they were standing in an offide position when a shot went flying past them into the net.

You would flag them offside, however, if the ball rebounds to them in an offside position.

The key moment, in either case, is when their teammate plays the ball forward, not when the ball rebounds.

Decent enough performance for the most part.

Juve controlled much of the game, should have scored more goals and saw the game out without too much difficulty.

Thought the back three had a good game. Didn't really allow Catania anything much and kept their concentration throughout.

Could, of course, have been a very different game if the officiating hadn't been so shit.

Clearly, the calls were wrong on Juve's goal and Catania's 'goal' and I thought most of the yellow cards that were given were poor decisions, including Marchese's first one.

Juve caused themselves problems at times by over covering into the centre, leaving their right side quite open. The three CBs should be able to cover the centre, so Lichtsteiner should be holding his position wider. If he has tucked in, Vidal really needs to keep himself in a position to move across and not be dragged into the centre, too.

Thought Bentdner took up good positions and moved well, but he's clearly not sharp and, ultimately, he's just not very good.

Well that was a terrible game in terms of officiating. We didn't play great but I did think our play was VERY slow. It was slug like but again we got a result and we probably will not hear the end of this one. If we win the scudetto watch people still bring this game up and suggest we wouldn't of won if catanias goal counted bla bla. Anyways forza juve.

Ps: bendtner even though missed his chances he does bring that threat in the air but I guess if he can't score his chance he's not different then most of our strikers. Also side not has anyone heard of this juventus movie coming out called the black and white stripes, the juventus story?

If we took the chances we create people wouldn't be saying we scrape through games, most games we should be easily winning by 3 or 4 goals with the chances.

Also anyone comparing us to the Milan of last year is an idiot and clearly has not watched us all season. When in 99% of the games, we've looked in total control.

Yup.

And people still want to blame the formation rather than shit finishing when Juve don't win convincingly.

The 3-5-2 has always been looked down upon since we started using it as most see it as a negative formation. Yet we have the best attack and defence in Serie A I believe.

Yea minus fiorentina I don't think we have been outplayed. Shaktar for a half but thats all I can recollect. Anyways and there would be ZERO controversy if we finish at least 1/3 of our chances during the match.

I don't believe 8 wins and 1 draw in 9 games is anything to complain about in the league. Considering we've played Udinese away, Fiorentina away, Roma home, Catania away and Napoli at home.

Those are 5 tricky games.

Bologna and inter aren't any easier either. Then against Chelsea, we are going to see even more what our players are all about.

I wa thinking about my previous statement about juve playing very slow and I came to the conclusion if we can do the minimum and get a win why not? Yes there was terrible referring but because of it we were able to completely control the game so why wouldn't they conserve energy and take the win as is. Why keep pushing for 2 3 4 goals? You can say we should of ended it a lot earlier but I really see juve putting most of their energy in trying to qualify for the last 16 then try and out gun out run hustle and bustle a Catania or bologna. Yes its a dangerous game but unfortunately our rotation isn't utilized enough for us to play full out for 90minutes each game.

I'm not sure if that's the issue, but Juve certainly don't play the fast, exciting football they did at times last season.

However if we played the fast, high pressing game. We'd certainly be very fatigued at the most important part of the season. Considering all our toughest games are next year, I think playing within ourselves at times is sensible.

I know and I've argued for and against 3-5-2 depending on the situation.

Dortmund are proof, as far as I'm concerned, of how difficult it is to try and play a really high-tempo game twice a week.

The way we play with the 3-5-2 is just so safe. Sometimes I find myself screaming for a 4-3-3 at times but then I'm like, "well this team will never touch the ball and probably will get like 2 or 3 shots against us as it is.... so..".

If only we could finish better.

If we finished better all our games would be over within the first half.

Against Napoli. The supposedly anti Juve. We kept all their top players at bay without breaking a sweat. That was amazing to watch.
