trez will get 20 mins, feel sorry for zalayeta though, hes dun well for us and the fact is that now he wont even make the bench in most of the games. He doesnt deserve that.

Forza Juve

Emerson and Blasi must win midfield and Camo, Zambro and Nedved have to wake up and play at their best. Trez, DP and Zlatan just have to score and Canna-Thuram have to be solid ;)

hardfought game this... PLZ 3pts JUVENTUS!! FORZA FORZA!

This won't be an easy game. Though Cagliari haven't been in the best of form recently they're still difficult to beat and players like Zola, Esposito and Langella will make us pay if we're not solid at the back.

3-1 to Juve, Del Piero to score for the second Serie A game running.

The away match at the Sant’Elia stadium closes a first leg that Juventus led excellently: Capello’s squad has showed an impressive solidity, finding from the very beginning of the championship the very balance of team roles which the Friuli-born coach has always reckoned to be an essential prerequisite in order to achieve his targets. Targets that have been fully achieved in the first part of the season, qualifying, even two rounds in advance, to Champions’ League last 16 and having an impressive pace in Serie A, which has already given the Bianconeri the title of Winter Champions. Therefore a victory against Cagliari would be the icing on the cake, the finishing touch to a record first leg. The Sardinian club are certainly within reach for the Bianconeri battleship but they are still a dangerous opponent, particularly at home, like figures show, with 7 victories for Juventus against 8 victories for the Sardinian club out of twenty-five matches. Everything shows that this might be the right year to even up.

The Bianconeri face a difficult match against a side which has done extremely well at home. For Juventus a win would be important to keep Milan at bay but they will have to improve their recent performances if they want to leave Cagliari with the three points. Zola’s side will be upbeat following their Coppa Italia qualification at the expense of Lazio and will therefore be very motivated to obtain a positive result against the league leaders.

Prediction: X2

i think that blasi will get esposito to mark. pretty hard man to mark but i think blasi is up to it. i trust him more than anyother defensive midfielder.

Zola will face fabio canavaro, which is a good a contest to watch.Thats the obvious but i think thuram will get a shot at zola cuz zola is not the fastest of players and there are other faster players that cana , can mark.

I think we should play with our usual formation: Blasi and Emo in midlefield will be the key if we are solid also in the back! I think with Trez and Olivera fit again we have more options in attack to do substitution!

forza Juve

0:3 (Del Piero, Nedved, Trez)

It's games like these that true Champions win, whether it be by showing their class and overwhelming the opposition, or grinding out the result against a good team.

If being substituted practically every game hasn't already given Del Piero some needed motivation then Adrian Mutu's arrival and David Trezeguet's return certainly will. Regular playing time and a ticket to WC2006 (I know it's early but still) are on the line, DP. Show us what you've got.

I think Zola will score on Penalty and Del Piero, Trezeguet and Nedved will score for Juventus, so 3-1 ;)

Serie A Preview: Cagliari-Juventus
1/15/2005 11:51:00 AM
Juventus travel to Sardinia looking to put their recent shaky performances behind them. This season Cagliari have proved that they will not be easily brushed aside by Italy’s bigger sides and should provide the league leaders with a tricky encounter.
BACKGROUND

Daniele Arrigoni’s side have gained many admirers in Serie A since the start of this season. With few additions to the squad that finished second in Serie B last term many expected Cagliari to struggle in Italy’s top flight. The Sardinian side have made an impact in Serie A picking up vital victories but also playing good football. In many important matches Cagliari have kept their composure and performed well against Italy’s more established sides. As Cagliari are no longer the surprise package of the league it will be interesting to see how Arrigoni’s players fair against teams that will inevitably show them more respect.

Cagliari are in danger of loosing the momentum that has carried them to eighth in Serie A. With their recent disappointing run loosing them vital places in the league Arrigoni will be hoping that his side can compose itself and return to their early season form. With Gianfranco Zola and the ever-impressive Mauro Esposito in their side Cagliari are an attacking force not to be taken lightly.

The New Year is upon us and still Juventus continue to struggle. After a downturn in form before the Christmas break, Bianconeri boss Fabio Capello promised that a rest would restore his side to their unbeatable best. However, 2005 has so far seen Juventus struggle to dominate matches in the way they have done for the majority of this season. A disappointing draw against Parma was followed by a shaky 4-2 win over Livorno. Whilst Juventus’ win over Livorno allowed them to pull away from Milan Capello will be mindful of their poor form which saw them eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Atalanta, Serie A’s bottom placed team. Capello’s side needed to win by three goals in order to progress to the next round, whilst his strikers did their part, the defence allowed Atalanta to also score three, resulting in the Bianconeri’s elimination. Juventus have been so miserly in defence this season that conceding three seemed unthinkable before kick off.

TEAM NEWS

Cagliari:

With the exception of Loria who is injured, Arrigoni has the luxury of choosing from a full squad of players. The Cagliari tactician looks set to start with Zola and Langella in attack with Esposito behind the pair.

Juventus:

Following Trezeguet’s scoring return in the Coppa Italia, Capello has no major injury doubts ahead of this game. Juventus finally have a full compliment of players to choose from, although Appiah is excepted to be rested after suffering a muscle strain.

FORM GUIDE

Cagliari (all competitions – oldest result first): WLLWLL
The side’s recent form has seen them slide away from the heights that they had reached earlier on in the season, but 8th position is still an unbelievable feat.

Juventus (all competitions – oldest result first): DWDDWD
Capello’s men seem to have taken their foot off the pedal in recent games and will need to find the winning consistency that took them to the top of Serie A. Despite moving away from Milan with a 4-2 win over Livorno, Juve were knocked out of the Italian Cup by Atalanta after a 3-3 draw.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Cagliari:
Esposito has had an amazing season that has seen him break into Lippi bnational squad. The midfielder has yet to perform to his potential for the Azzurri but has shown his qualities consistently in Serie A. The midfielder’s pace and eye for goal could give ask questions of Juventus’ recently under performing defence.

Juventus:
Trezeguet will not start the match but should make a contribution during the 90 minutes. With Del Piero’s unconvincing form this season Trezeguet’s return could add some extra sharpness to the Bianconeri’s attack. Trezeguet is the complete finisher and will be looking to make up for lost time this season.

PROBABLE STARTING XIs

Cagliari (4-3-3):
Iezzo - Lopez, Bega, Maltagliati, Agostini - Abeijon, Brambilla, Gobbi - Esposito, Zola, Langella

Juventus (4-4-2):
Buffon - Zebina, Thuram, F.Cannavaro, Zambrotta - Camoranesi, Blasi, Emerson, Nedved - Del Piero, Ibrahimovic.

PREDICTION

Juventus should easily cope with Cagliari and bounce back from their Coppa Italia elimination with a win against the Sardinians
