Cagliari - Juventus

Who: Cagliari v Juventus
When: Sunday, 2nd September 2007, kick-off 15:00 (CET)
Where: Stadio Sant’Elia, Cagliari

Another Positive Performance?

Following the wins against Livorno (Serie A) and Parma (Coppa Italia) many are now wondering if Juventus can continue on the same lines when they visit a surprising Cagliari side this weekend at the Sant’Elia stadium.

The Bianconeri finally showed some good football against Livorno following a disappointing pre-season and against Parma confirmed all the good things shown so far. Cagliari have always been a difficult team to face for the Old Lady, therefore it will be an important test to see whether Claudio Ranieri’s side really can compete with the big guns this year.

Another convincing display would surely pave the way for the rest of the season and inject confidence in a 'new team’ which is still searching for the right objectives this year. Most probably these will be a Champions League spot, but the Juve fans are still hoping that their team can aim higher.

First Matchday Surprise

Few would have bet on an away win for Cagliari against newly promoted Napoli, but that is what happened last weekend as the Rossoblu defeated the Partenopei at the San Paolo. Touted as being relegation favourites following the loss of David Suazo this past summer, Cagliari could actually become one of the surprises of this season.

Their main man is definitely Foggia who has continued from where he left off last year when he helped Reggina to an incredible survival in the Italian topflight. It is difficult to say where Cagliari can go from here, but this game could be a good indication.

Tiago Mystery

The only negative side for the Bianconeri so far has been the slow acclimation of Portuguese midfielder Tiago. Hailed as the main man from the transfer market, he has already lost his place to Almiron and will need to pull his socks if he wants to get back in the first eleven this season.

Definitely a player with a lot of quality, but will need to prove this on the pitch in the coming weeks, maybe even when coming in as a reserve during this game if Ranieri offers him this opportunity.

TEAM NEWS

Cagliari
Marruocco and Bizera are the only unavailable players for the Rossoblu who can therefore count on an almost full squad for this important home game against the Old Lady.

Juventus
Ranieri will once again have to do without Birindelli, Marchionni and Grygera who are all injured, but will manage to recover Camoranesi. The Italian international is expected to play his first minutes of the season in the second half.

The Juventus coach is expected to use the Andrade-Criscito duo at the centre of the defence in order to have a more solid backline.

PROBABLE FORMATIONS

Cagliari (4-4-2):
Fortin, Ferri, Lopez, Bianco, Del Grosso, Foggia, Parola, Conti, Fini, Larrivey, Matri

Juventus (4-4-2):
Buffon, Salihamidzic, Andrade, Criscito, Chiellini, Nocerino, Almiron, Zanetti, Nedved, Trezeguet, Del Piero

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Foggia (Cagliari)
The midfielder arrived from Reggina and he already proved why Mazzarri wanted him with the Amaranti last year. Very technical and hard working, scored during last weekend’s precious away win to Napoli. Will be fundamental for the Rossoblu on Sunday afternoon.

Trezeguet (Juventus)
Granted that he cannot score hat-tricks every single weekend, the French striker will surely be the most dangerous player for the Bianconeri when they take on Cagliari. When given space and opportunities, he will duly deliver.

PREDICTION

It will be a tight affair this time for Juventus and a draw is definitely a possibility, but right now the Bianconeri seem to have hit some good form and will want to continue doing so this weekend with a low-scoring away win

Cagliari 0 – 1 Juventus

No one is fighting but I really got bored of negative vibes you and other members keep sending about the team.
What negative vibes are you talking about?

I only said that Iaquinta is not a competent player.

If you hint that my prediction of the result of this match was a negative one, I have to disagree. I think players won't have the same motivation after consecutive two wins to win this one, hence why I predicted the 2-2 result.
