We signed Nico Gonzalez to make an instant impact though. I agree the transfer should be judged after a couple of seasons but so far he's looked like a slightly better, less injured version of
Jorge Martinez. This is not a good look on us.

We signed Nico Gonzalez to make an instant impact though. I agree the transfer should be judged after a couple of seasons but so far he's looked like a slightly better, less injured version of
Jorge Martinez. This is not a good look on us.

So far it does, but in the summer it made sense. Nico had an excellent season with Fiorentina and was a regular for Argentina. Soule was nobody. Plus we got another winger in Conceicao for the season.
For this particular season we won very little with the trade. We paid 15m for the loans of Nico and Chico, and we got more for Soule. Nico+Chico have done more than Soule. Chico+Soule would have been a very risky option with two very young players.

This season I would say we didn't definitely win nor lose. From next year we'll see. Though I don't think that we'll be the eventual winners.

Don't forget Allegri/Motta.

With Allegri we had guaranteed top 4 finish and CL money. This decision to replace him with Motta will cost us, what, 100m? Much more than Kelly+Nico.
