This week from Roma Clowns:

Naingollan:
“I don’t know how far we can go, but we are working well and trying to do even better. Considering the way Juventus are playing right now, I think we can catch them."
Szczesny:
“We are not here to challenge for second spot,” Szczesny declared in an interview with Roma TV.

“We want to go out and win the competition, whether that’s Serie A or the Europa League. So we are still very much focused on winning the Scudetto.

“We believe we can do it."

+

“Roma’s targets? The Scudetto, the Europa League and the Coppa Italia,” Szczesny said in an interview with Laczynaspilka.

“Roma have ambition and tradition, as well as a good squad. Juventus are favourites, but Roma are one of the teams who can dethrone them.

“Everyone drops points in Serie A, even Juventus. I don’t think the Old Lady is that much better than Roma.”
Strootman:
After having spoken about his aversion to losing, the 26-year-old revealed his ambitions for his side have no limits as they aim to win both Serie A and the Europa League, adding the Coppa Italia along the way.

"There is no need to choose, because we are aiming to win both competitions," Strootman continued in an interview with UEFA.com. "And the Coppa Italia.
El Shawaary:
“The gap with Juventus? We can take on anyone, we’ve improved so much, we’re doing very well in attack. With consistency, we can go very far."
Spalletti:
“In order to keep Juve in our sights, we’ve got to think like them, win like them and have their same objectives. We must consolidate what we’ve done thus far, being strong and beautiful. We can also at times try to win when not being beautiful.”
And then, Roma happens.

True story. It's still funny each year when Roma players come out and talk about how "this is the year" and how "strong they are this year" and how "nice the football they play is" and "considering how Juve are playing"... and then Roma always seems to happen right after they start talking to the media about how they are strong enough to win the scudetto. You might think last season taught them a lesson.

Strootman and Szczesny are even talking about a treble.

And then there's Hamsik. He's now said he will retire if Napoli win the scudetto :D

But they are asked about that in pretty much every case I've seen.

If they bring it up themselves, it's hella stupid, true.
Remember the Rudi Garcia - Naingollan moment, celebrating a poor Juve result in October back in 2014...

It's the same thing when he says this week: "considering the way Juventus are playing right now, I think we can catch them."

Why put your foot in your mouth like that? Why are you talking about how Juventus are playing badly... That's even worse for Roma, if we're in bad patch of form and still several points ahead in the table.

Wat? They seriously overrate their team. They actually believe they're as strong, if not better, than us.
I doubt that, if they were that deluded as a general rule Pjanic wouldnt likely be with us. 5 scudetto in a row is very good wake up call. IMO its more like they are in the capital, natural pressure cooker in mid level club that needs to face frivilous expectations all the time. So they WILL be asked about scudetto as soon as they have a good run of form/close enough, and they are bound to atleast outwardly exude some level of belief, for confidence and PR sake.

I doubt they willingly go out of their way to say stuff like that. In fact IMO after we signed Higauin it was the biggiest example of how Roma players and Serie A players in general kept saying we are in our own league etc, like they had given up. Its only after season started and some do well for a little bit that the natural media driven scudetto talk comes up.

I am impressed by Gasperini's Atalanta. First of all, Gasp is using his 3-4-3 / 4-3-3 with a lot of pressing and an attacking minded idea. What I also really liked by Genoa etc. Second the youngsters Caldara, Gagliardini and Kessie are playing amazing and Petagna and Conti aren't playing bad aswell. Gagliardini is a nice player, loves his style. Kessie is a powerhouse and Caldara a reliable defender who scores a lot.

The second team that my impress is Torino. Mihajlovic let's their team attack, he didn't do that at Sampdoria / Milan where he prefered a really defensive minded playstyle. The midfield trio Benassi - Valdifiori - Baselli is like a small MVP and Belotti is on fucking fire. Hart is too good for Torino and is helping them points. I wouldn't mind if one of these two clubs will reach Europa League. I think Torino can better hold their players. Kessie and Gagliardini will be 90% away next summer and Sportiello will go in winter to Fiorentina.
