So having a little extra time at lunch today, I caught the 15 bus and headed up to SF's Italian North Beach district. A Cavalli Imports carries the latest Guerin Sportivo every Tuesday. And in the June 7-13 issue, they have a nice season review of Serie A -- including a brief review of Juve's championship season plus the annual Guerin d'Oro -- average journalist ratings for Serie A players throughout the season to compile a top 100 (actually, 146) list.

And the top 25(-ish) winners in order:

1) G Pagliuca - Bol - 6,50
2) JS Veron - Inter - 6,48
3) E Cambiasso - Inter - 6,47
4) C. Lucarelli - Liv - 6,44
4) L. Toni - Pal - 6,44
6) G. Zola - Cagl - 6,42
7) Emerson - Juve - 6,40
8) Zlatan - Juve - 6,39
9) Camoranesi - Juve - 6,35
9) E. Corini - Pal - 6,35
9) M. Storari - Mes - 6,35
12) Adriano - Inter - 6,34
12) Sheva - Milan - 6,34
14) D. Pizarro - Udi - 6,33
14) V. Iaquinta - Udi - 6,33
14) M. Vucinic - Lec - 6,33
17) Canna - Juve - 6,31
17) E. Chiesa - Sie - 6,31
19) C. Amoroso - Bol - 6,29
20) F. Antonioli - 6,28
21) Gila - Par - 6,27
21) F. Flachi - Samp - 6,27
21) M. Esposito - Cagl - 6,27
21) Nedved - Juve - 6,27
21) M. Serini - Laz - 6,27
21) A. Manniger - Sie - 6,27

Some surprises myself, IMO: Storari and particularly Manniger, who played only 19 matches.

Yeah. Some people loved him this past season. Personally, I thought he was mostly a dud until the second half of the year. And even at that...

With these median ratings, typically I've found they can be more of a reflection of how well a player has performed relative to expectations versus an overall performance. Hence a Sheva could look like a bit of a slacker compared to, say, a Zola.

So you can get the Guerin Sportivo in America? Lucky you, the only place where I can find it here is at the EU Commission's bookshop, and then again they usually haven't received it every other week.
