Yeah, it was a decent game. His level is way above this though. He'll get better when he understands his teammates and especially what to do when Pirlo has the ball. And as Osman said, the wet surface probably affect him the most because of his quick movements.

Napoli defence was owning him pretty much all the time. When the cards happened he had much more space and looked better. Overall much less than I expected and I'm worried about his play against good defences.

we weren't playing properly in the 1st half though, that long ball shit was always going to see him get raped.

i thought he played as a CF which ain't good for such body.. he should drop a lil and collect the ball from Pirlo and the midfield.. and tbh a player like Hazard or Giovinco or Sanchez or any type of this players would have struggled in such wet pitch..

He was bullied off the game completely for like 50-55 minutes, Napoli were aggressively pressurring and tackling all of our players (in that same time frame I would say pretty much all our players besides Asamoah and Licht were bullied off the ball in 1-1 sitautions), extra worse for Gio due to his size and that as an attacker he allways received the ball when it was in contention and his back to the opponent/goal (they shut Pirlo out of the game most of this time, so most lanes for passes were poor). Pretty much completely nullified due to that, add to that the slippery surface making him loose balance due to his quick turns, his possession retaining rate was extremely poor due to it. But mostly what mattered (because above scenarios are mainly conditions of a single game) was that he was visibly the new guy to the team, how he moved and rest of the team did was different (was too high up most of the time, instead of taking part of the build up).

He picked it up to decent level 2nd half/over time because he got more in synch and in tune with the others. Plus Napoli were more defensive while not pressurring as aggressive due to getting tired, offering more space/time. Overall in, between a ok to somewhat dissapointing game for him for the full of it. Which is incidently what I would say is say the case for the team in overall, average performance, with a chosen few being good individually (Asamoah, Vuci, Vidal slightly latter on).
