Zola zooms in on Giovinco Sunday 30 November, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gianfranco Zola admits he would love to sign Sebastian Giovinco for West Ham, as Juventus aren’t making the most of his talent.

The Under-21 international is well known to Zola, who was the assistant manager to Pierluigi Casiraghi for two years.

“He has the mentality and the technique to be one of the greats and he has got to play,” said the Hammers boss.

“The fact he celebrates scoring a goal with his hand above his head to joke about how short he is also proves he uses great humour, recognising his weakness may well be his strength, as it makes him faster.”

Bianconeri fans have been increasingly frustrated at the lack of playing time afforded to 'The Atomic Ant’ since he returned from a loan spell at Empoli.

Arsenal are also very interested in snapping up the youngster, but Zola feels they are all going to be left empty-handed.

“Giovinco for me is in the category of players who can make the difference, because they can change the course of a game.

“Unfortunately, I think Juventus are not going to release him, especially as he will certainly be of use as the season wears on.”

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri explained after last night’s 4-0 win over Reggina what the future holds for Giovinco.

“We already sent him out on loan to mature last season. Now he has to battle to win his place in the side. There is no point in him playing 20 games in another team, as he needs to earn his position at Juventus.

“It won’t be easy, but this club means always asking for more and pushing yourself beyond your limitations.

“We called him back because we have great belief in Giovinco. He doesn’t have a specific position yet, as he could be a support striker or wide left in a 4-4-2, where he played a lot for Empoli last term, which is why I didn’t sign another player to be Pavel Nedved’s understudy.”

did you never play football ?

you don't earn your spot by being thrown into a game and scoring instantly, but in training !
George Best regularly trained drunk or hung over, yet he was able to score three goals in the evening.

In other words, what is the purpose of training well if you can't do anything in the match and vice-versa?

first of all, george best's time is long ago ... today he probably would not play if he does not train well...

the rest is so brainless i will not even spend a word on that . . .

it can't ALL be because of training...it is quite clear that Ranieri does not know what is the best position for Seba, so he takes the easier way and benches him

... and collects wins ;)

we really have enough matches left in the season, so giovinco will get more chances to play.

it is just the way things are at juve ... it does fit into the picture, when juve played hardball over the wages for giovinco. that is a sign that he will NOT get something for free and he has to earn everything ... perhaps it is annoying for us fans and sebastian, but it is good for his character ... you do not want some spoiled brat character like christiano ronaldo in juve who does hold his club for ransom to get higher wages and so on, do you ?

well adriano these days testifies otherwise.

the purpose of training is personal discipline, improving yourself and creating team chemistry

the media was going apeshit for no reason IMO...there was no real tension in extending Seba's contract, it was the media's sensationalist articles that were making it seem that way...it was the same story last year with Camo Ale Trez and Pavel's contract extensions

and from what I have seen, I don't think Sebastian is a negative character...I get the impression that he has a very humble personality and is willing to work hard for his chance...I would just like to see Ranieri give him more chances to dispaly his undeniable talent...and even in the very few games Seba has played, he has shown glimpses of real class

i never said seba did have a bad character. in fact everything we read from him leads to the conclusion that he is really humble and that is a good thing, but cristiano ronaldo was like that at sometime too.

we all want to see him more, but over that we want to win ... unless ranieri knows how to combine winning with playing seba i'll go for the wins.

What a load of horse piss.

George Best, one of the top players in history, would certainly play today.
