Giovinco: Euro 2008 Is Impossible
Empoli starlet Sebastian Giovinco has exclusively told Goal.com that he has no chance of being selected by Italy for Euro 2008.
Giovinco, who is currently on loan at Empoli from parent club Juventus, is widely regarded as one of Italy’s most explosive young talents.
Empoli
The 21-year-old was asked with how he felt his first season in Serie A has gone.
"It has been absolutely positive,” Giovinco stated.
“I am content with what I have done so far. I have to thank Empoli for the opportunity they has given me, and if I can one day return to Turin it will be thanks to this fundamental experience.
"Why did I choose Empoli? It was a quiet place where I could find space. Plus there was as a player like [Ighli] Vannucchi who I have always admired and from whom I try to learn a lot, both in matches and in training. I came to Empoli also because of him.”
Juventus
The majority of Juventus fans are desperate to see Giovinco playing in their colours next season.
"We will see at the end of the season,” he said.
“Now I am thinking only of Empoli, we will evaluate everything after.
"The fans affection makes me happy, because I still have everything to prove despite this love.”
Secco Sale
There are reports in the Italian press that sporting director Alessio Secco wanted to sell Giovinco this summer, along with Claudio Marchisio and Paolo De Ceglie, and that this was only prevented when coach Claudio Ranieri vetoed the deal.
"I do not know if this is true, but if it is then it makes me happy,” he declared.
“I would be a hypocrite if I was to say that I would not like to return to Turin and play with Juve, but this is not the time to talk about it."
Euro 2008
Finally Giovinco commented on calls from some people that the pint sized trequartista should be picked for Italy’s Euro 2008 squad.
"As we all know it is impossible that this could happen, so it is pointless debating about it. Of course I am pleased, but no more. One day, like everyone else, I hope to get there, but now, sincerely it seems very unreal,” he concluded.
