Our defense is unable to score.
That makes us lack one dimension in freekicks and above all, corners.
We do not have a big strong man witch seeks goal and has a good header.

If you look at many big teams (not all) they have defensemen witch are very able to score. This is something we lack in Juve. The benefits with a dangerous defender is not just that he will score, he will also draw attention to him at corners witch makes more space for attackers and midfielders.

Examples:
Chelsea- John Terry, Very dangerous with his headers.
Liverpool- Sami Hyypia, Not a player I prefer, but still he draws a lot of attention with his height and runs inside the box.
Real- Roberto Carlos, Has past his peak but in “the days” he was just great.
Milan- Jaap Stam, Was more offensive in his earlier stages of his career. Scored 7 goals for PSV 96-97.

Question:
Is this something we (Juve) should consider when thuram retires?
Or should we just seek for the best defensive defender we can find?

Cannavaro scored 3 goals last season.
I think that we must find good central defender with good heading. We certainly had a problem against Bayern(which is one of the toughest teams in the C.L.),they are perfect in the air duels.
John Terry is a rarity,he is a big strong defender, but pretty much fast,at the same time. But if you ask me,I would like one good Italian central defender, simply they are the best.

But it is not just the scoring. It is to be able to threat!
We could gain a lot in 50/50 games when i we meet hard opponents.

    Our attack was great,
our midfield can help to score <in addition, we have vieira this year>,
    if defenders cannot score,
    That`s not a big problem

Yeah I know whats your point, and like other members said Cannavaro scored alot last season.

But IMO, bringing a defender (like Tudor) just becouse he could score its not a good idea, I mean their job its to defend, not to score, it would be good if they could score one goal from time to time, but its not something that I ask for a defender to do.

    Agree up to 90%.
But imagine A John Terry in the team. Not exactly him but the same type.

having a player doesnt need to be a defender, but someone to aim for at set pieces and who can stick the ball in the net from set pieces ala terry and tudor is very helpfull.

imo for his size and agility vieira should be more of a goal threat from corners etc.

Cannavaro scored a few goals for us last season, however out of Thuram, Fabio, and Kovac at the back...none of them are really dominant in the air. The only players I see Nedved or Camoranesi target on dead balls is either Trezeguet, Cannavaro, Ibrahimovic, and Emerson. And I have to we are dismal scoring off dead ball situations and especially corners..

I wish big Igor was back at Juventus..

    CANNAVARO!

and secondly, we dont get defenders for scoring. Its not their job.

although, i read that zambrotta was playing as a forward once....atleast when he started.....he definetly makes nice passes, but i am surprised of that story...because i cant see him scoring.......as he scored for juve? when and where? He definetly has a good foot.

but its cannavaro who scores, his like terry....good in the air and comes forward when we take corners(like against liverpool) or freekicks......and VIEIRA is also VERY GOOD in the air.....he was that with arsenal and he has been scoring headers for juve also........so i dont think we need defender who scores.....only thing what worrys me about vieira is his tackles.....europe refs dont like his tackles.......you know they say in epl players are allowed to play more dangerously.....what i mean refs dont whistle for any strong tackel......
