sorry, i tend to not read your liberal left wing posts for the most part
I'm a commie pinko that supports gun ownership, what can I say.

I think it's a pretty stupid comparison. I mean, what exactly is the rate of murder by exploding moving vans?
I thought it was a good comparison for all the people who freak out at this event and lose the perspective of similar tragedies in the past. Those children who died at the hands of McVeigh were no more or less innocent nor guilty, nor died of a better or worse tragedy, than their Sandy Hook counterparts.

If you're pro-gun there are better arguments.
Not everybody gets that data-driven rationalism and emotionalist paranoia are radically different. The first has rules. The second gets you elected.

Victimology doesn't really matter. People die every day.

I don't know, I think it's silly. It's like comparing deaths from food allergies to deaths from guns.

yeah, because if people can't buy guns they'll spend the money they were going to buy guns with on poor people.

It's a great point.

National priorities always suck at prevention.

Look at the money we spend on Katrina clean-up as opposed to building proper gates and levees.

McVeigh is a decent example, IMO.

But at the same time, it's unrealistic to think that access to guns doesn't make the tragedy a whole lot more convenient. Adam Lanza was unlikely to rent a Ryder truck and fill it with fertilizer.

True. But that sells the sky-is-falling paranoia that everyone is subject to home break-ins with deadly force. I'll wish I had a nuclear warhead when a meteorite is about to fall from space onto my house to obliterate it, but that in itself doesn't exactly justify me owning nukes either.

Logic and dumbshit emotionalism aren't the same thing.
There is a logical inconsistency with the whole McVeigh example: Let me take it to an extreme - don't take the RPGs from people because 9/11 showed us one can do a lot more damage with a plane. If the Mcveigh argument was logically consistent, it would make sens at both ends of the spectrum (of examples).

As much as it annoys me to say, we need to ban handguns in this country. Unfortunately for those of us who are sane and responsible, the general populace is just far too violent to be trusted with that type of responsibility. Furthermore there should be a mininal legal barrel length on any other weapon.

Despite all the fear mongering in the media over whatever is fashionably defined as an "assault weapon" these days, conceilability is by far the most dangerous aspect of any firearm.

I think banning may be taking it a bit too far but I get where you're coming from. We all have friends on Facebook who talk about how they carry in public and shit and once you're see who those people are, it makes you wish guns were banned.
