He was very good this season but he has his limitations. If we want to win games like these, we need players not only to be good tactically but also technically. Marchisio is a different class compared to him technically and if not for his size , he would've been picked ahead of Khedira all day long. Khedira is a donkey in possession in comparison to Marchisio. Unless he has superstar midfielders surrounding him, Khedira will always end up being exposed.
This remains most accurate.
Khedira is past it. He had his compensating ways in big games, when surrounded by great players. He and Pogba somehow go hand in hand. Pogba needs a guy like khedira to do his thing. Khedira needs an attractionmagnet with skill like Pogba to be able to be usefull.
In small games, we indeed didnt see it. In big games, Khedira has been a major shortcomming.
- He's useless in possession
- He loses all his btb quality when the opponent is good
- He's to slow to reposition tactically. EXAMPLE : first goal, where is the cm that comes back to pick up ronaldo ? We had an exact copy of this situation one houre later, only this time Marchisio got ahead of the madrid player in the sameposition just in time
We were domminating the game, but the failure of the cm, allowed real's goal.
It is extremely simkple. Either you get a tactically+physical amazing player that will not fucking fuck his own arsehole instead of picking up players at the box, allowing Pjanic to focus less defensively and allow him to move into spaces to receive the ball before we have it (spanish teams are brilliant at this, especially barcelona). The ability and possibility to mark an area but not as tight, that when you recover the ball, you are in a good position, but this requires much bigger sacrifice from the pressing player. Vidal did this for us btw.
OR, you put a player who's similar and different but compatible to pjanic : Also excellent techique, passing and vision. But able to get past players. Obviously verratti comes to mind.
