I despised this move when we made it. In fact he was my least favourite signing last summer. But the man, injuries apart reads the game better than most, in all of Europe. What a class, intelligent player. Simply the difference between a team playing as individuals, and one that's galvanised by clever passing.
Injuries aside, I can never understand why so many people were against this transfer. Whenever I watched him for Germany or Madrid, he was always very good, extremely solid and tactically smart player.

He was played around 100 matches for Real Madrid and was a 100% starter in their Champions League matches. Besides that he has a guaranteed spot in Der Mannschaft. If you can sign a player from his caliber you should take the chance, the same was for Pirlo and Dani Alves.
You take him out and we lose control. I remember last season, that horrific beginning. Once he got in, things calmed down. Players benefit greatly from the calmness and confidence he oozes.
