That happens everywhere. I drive daily against a huge column of Russian OMON completely abandoned/destroyed, it's OMON, not military.

Shit, dude. I am not an opsec, I am too dumb to do it, because I am here on TuZ. I am just here, in Kharkiv.
And there is no mind games, it's just a reality. Russian army is bigger and stronger then ours, for sure. But it's not nearly as well-oiled machine as even Russian believed.

I hope you make it through this safe man.

With the way media works, it's nigh impossible to invade and control a whole sovereign relatively well functioning country. Back then you had to strike fast and commit as much atrocities as possible yo break people's spirit. You just can't get away with that anymore.
Totally agree. if this was a russian invasion 15 years ago this would be a completely different story. or if they were brown people.
And I know it might sound crazy but during this all thing I kept thinking how reserved are the Russians so far, with all the sorrow this could have gone much, much worse.

Anyway it's crazy how much of this war plays out in real time in the media and on social sites. It's fascinating

if they managed to assassinate zelenskyi in the first 48 hours (which they did try) and capture some high level officials it could have been realistic. :boh:
Yes, but would the Ukranian will to fight on be broken? With Zelenskyj removed maybe, it's hard to say.

The Russians gambled everything and didn't succeed in doing so. Now they're in for a long and hard fight, alternatively they pull out and lose face big time.

Even if it's to be true, taking Ukraine in around 3 days would be pretty much impossible. Even if they succeeded in removing Zelenskyj in that time period.

It looks like the Russian leadership really underestimated the Ukrainians will to fight.
I have a friend who has/had a business in Odessa, he has a few Ukrainians -Russians workers. He kept hearing from them before this started how the Ukrainians are not a real nation and have no patriotism.
Don't know how accurate that was, evidently not at all, but if this sentiment was prevalent in Russia itself then it's quite likely Putin expected a fast capitulation.

similarly insignificant sample size: i had a ukranian mate during my university days. (end of '90s, he broke my acl during our weekly football session with a badly timed tackle, those were the days lol) anyway, he was just as proud to be ukrainian-hungarian double citizen as he could be. our russian mates (~10% of our group) mostly stayed in hungary or in the eu and never returned to russia, this guy rushed back to transcarpathia after graduation like a champ.

Thats really wishful thinking. Not to be that guy, but the propaganda and speculation into the russian campaign ‘not going as planned’ has been really strong. No doubt to boost morale and keep the fight going long enough for the russians to feel the pain or NATO closing the airspace (which is never happening)

Theyre engaged in cities equalling over 10m inhabitants and Mauripol + Kharkiv are on the brink of folding. Im pretty sure its going much worse for Ukraine than ‘we’ think. Next is Odessa and Kiev, and if this doesnt end up negotiated before then, thats all she wrote.

perhaps, but I don’t see Russians being okay with this war if it keeps lasting much longer. They’re going into third world country territory, they can only survive like that for so long

Yeah, we have a lot of those "proud Russians" here. They keep saying how great it was in Russia but you would need to load them on a plane and chain them to the sit to get them to go back. I don't fault them, they are programmed to think they are the most proud and resilient nation on earth and all the rest are soft, spoilt children.

Curious now. Why Bozeman? Montana is definitely beautiful but don’t hear many people talk about Bozeman?
Idk, it kind of clicked, sometimes you feel completely relaxed in a new place, that was Bozeman for me. Granted I've spent maybe a week total in Montana, and was planning in the next trip to visit it again before traveling through Canada.

    Here it is:

So there ya go. If it's the same US officials that said Russia would invade, it's totally possible.
