There’s been some talk about it, it’s the first time the Lions are here in 12 years so there’s definitely a little bit of buzz in the media but nothing compared to what it would have been like 20 years or so ago.
Union is a sport that’s in serious trouble here and most elite players now get into League these days. I’d say there’s probably more interest in the A League amongst the average punter than there is in Super Rugby and that’s saying a lot lol.
And in terms of national team sports, the Socceroos (ugh hate that name) have definitely moved up in the national consciousness compared to the Wallabies.
I guess because Union (like League) is only really popular in NSW, QLD and the ACT, compared to the Socceroos/Matildas which are widely followed and supported throughout the entire country, it makes their struggle for relevancy even more apparent these days.
Union also can’t seem to shake its tag of being a rich, private school boy sport played by yuppies from the eastern suburbs of Sydney lol.
