Cannavaro is old. Totti is old. They both have had surgeries and maintained fitness. Yes, I know Ronaldo's injury was worse but from those pictures it looks like he gained at least 20 to 30 pounds. Him being a professional athlete looking to return to playing, to me it seems like he didn't give a fuck what he put into his body during his surgery recovery. he can't expect to come back to be the player we once knew.

Comparing standards for Ronaldo to standards for Joe Average is a non-starter. Ronaldo has profited handsomely from his god-like physical status among billions of people. To suddenly say that now makes him immune from any of the detriments of that very same fame that paid him so handsomely is delusional.

You take the good with the bad. Star athletes are like movie stars. If you can't take the public scrutiny, get another line of work. You are paid for both the good and bad that comes with that role. You cannot have one without the other.

Not at all when you look at players players who started their careers after 1990.You could even bring up players from the 80's,and Ronaldo would still be up there as one of the best finishers in the world,if not the best.

Talking about players who started professionaly after 1990..you have Crespo,Nistelrooy,Shevchenko,Vieri,Trezeguet,Henry,Pauleta etc.

Talking about players who started professionaly after 1980..you have Romario,Bebeto,Baggio,Klinsmann,Stoichkov,Batistuta,Van Basten etc.

Ronaldo beats everyone in the first list.And almost everyone else in the 2nd list too.

I could be wrong, but I thought that was part of the problem during his come back before the previous season. Has he even started running again after this most recent knee injury yet? I'm not surprised in the least that he's a fatty right now. Besides, after the 3 (?!) major knee injuries/surgeries the man has had, if he returns to play at the top level at all it would be a huge accomplishment - a borderline miracle. This is CLEARLY one of the best footballers EVER - hence the World Cup scoring record, being three time FIFA/World player of the year, his ridonculous scoring record for Brazil (74 in 112 games - I had to look that one up...) and on and on. His skills deserve respect regardless of his current condition (and in spite of his uhh... indiscretions... ahem... trannygate... and eating habits... which is pretty much straight MCDONALDS)

I'm sure you realize this, but comparing Cannavaro's ankle injury to major knee surgery (X3) is ludicrous. I remember an article where Fabio was worried because he had never had any major surgery prior to this recent ankle injury - the man has been quite fortunate with his health over the years. He's also tremendously driven obviously, which is probably where you're coming from...

Say what you want about Ronaldhino's paunch, but for 16M Euros he represents what is basically a risk free move for AC Milan (financially speaking, due to merchandising, etc.). The man has freakish natural ability, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him have a great season, in what will probably be a new lease on life for him. What I'm saying is, I would take a slightly overweight, 28 year old Ronaldhino, with something to prove, for 16M euros - in a second. Given the comfortable (i.e. Brazilian dominated) surroundings of AC Milan, the transition should be pretty smooth. Give the man 2 months, and I bet he'll be damn near cut again. In fact, if we had signed Ronaldhino, I would have danced a fucking jig, despite any potential logistical complications due to formations, current personnel, wage structure etc. I can't wait until the stadium is finished, and we can TRULY splash the cash again...

It is where I'm coming from. I understand Ronaldo's injury is obviously worse than what Canna sustained. It's just disappointing to me to see the greatest finisher of my time lose his motivation to keep his body ready to play again. he's making it that much harder to get back to playing again. eating the right food is not that hard to do. especially if it contributes to your career and ability.
