The Giallorossi have been unable to convert their strong home form into success away from the Stadio Olimpico, collecting 17 points from five victories, two draws and nine defeats on their travels.
A goalless draw against Inter signalled the start of Roma’s campaign on the road. Their first three points of the season came against Parma at the Tardelli, a narrow 1-0 success achieved through Osvaldo’s strike shortly after the break.
Yet the win in Emilia-Romagna failed to spark a dramatic revival in Roma’s travelling fortunes. Klose’s last-gasp goal saw them slip to a 2-1 derby defeat, before Genoa won by the same margin ten days later at the Luigi Ferraris.
The Giallorossi then emerged victorious from Novara (2-0) but continued to show inconsistency, stumbling to consecutive away losses against Udinese and Fiorentina. They did, however, end 2011 with two straight away wins over Napoli (3-1) and Bologna (2-0).
The New Year has seen Roma unable to readdress their away difficulties. A 4-2 defeat in Cagliari was followed by a 1-1 draw in Catania, a narrow loss in Siena and a crushing 4-1 demolition at the hands of Atalanta in Bergamo.
Borini’s solitary strike enabled Luis Enrique’s men to taste success in Palermo, only for the slide to continue with defeats in Milan and Lecce.
